Retail Apocalypse
A retail apocalypse is the closing of numerous brick-and-mortar retail stores, especially those of large chains worldwide. It began around 2010, and was severely exacerbated by the mandatory closures during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2017, over 12,000 physical stores closed due to factors including over-expansion of malls, rising rents, bankruptcies, leveraged buyouts, low quarterly profits outside holiday binge spending, delayed effects of the Great Recession, and changes in spending habits. American consumers have shifted their purchasing habits due to various factors, including experience-spending versus material goods and homes, casual fashion in relaxed dress codes, as well as the rise of e-commerce, mostly in the form of competition from juggernaut companies such as Amazon.com and Walmart. Lesso Home New York
Lesso Home New York is a planned mixed-use development center located in Westbury, New York, on Old Country Road and Merchants Concourse (Ellison Avenue), currently owned by Lesso Mall Development Long Island Inc. The center is being built inside the mostly unoccupied Mall At The Source, which was named for its former anchor store Fortunoff (advertised as "The Source") operated until June 2009. The mall opened in 1997, under the management of Simon Property Group. With the 2009 closures of Fortunoff, Steve and Barry's, and Circuit City, three large anchor stores had become vacant. The drop of foot traffic by the loss of the anchors has caused other stores – the three aforementioned sub-anchor chains, plus Saks Off 5th, & Forever 21 – and the entire food court – including McDonald's, Starbucks, Ranch 1 – to pull out from the mall. History Tuesday Morning was established in 1974 by Lloyd Ross. A shopping mall (or simply mall) is a North American term for a large indoor shopping center, usually anchored by department stores.
