Restinga, Porto Alegre
Restinga is a neighbourhood (''bairro'') in the city of Porto Alegre, the state capital of Rio Grande do Sul, in Brazil. It was created by Law 6571 from January 8, 1990. One of biggest and most populated neighbourhoods in Porto Alegre, Restinga is home to 27 different shanty-towns today, but the three original slum areas are called ''Ilhota'', ''Theodora'' and ''Marítimos'', which were formed during the 1940s and the 1950s by poor migrants groups from country towns. Despite the City Hall efforts to improve its inhabitants' living conditions, there is still infrastructure scarcity in Restinga. Notable people The following were born or raised in Restinga. Tinga (footballer)
Paulo César Fonseca do Nascimento (born 13 January 1978), known as Tinga, is a Brazilian former professional footballer who played as a central midfielder. After making a name for himself at Grêmio, he went on to play professionally in, other than his country, Japan, Portugal and Germany, representing Borussia Dortmund in the latter nation. Club career Born in Porto Alegre, Tinga started playing professionally with local Grêmio Foot-Ball Porto Alegrense, receiving his nickname from the name of the Restinga quarter where he grew up. Raphael Dias Belloli (born 14 December 1996), known as Raphinha, is a Brazilian professional footballer who plays as a winger for La Liga club Barcelona and the Brazil national team. He began his career in with Avaí, but left for Portuguese side Vitória Guimarães in 2016, where he made his professional début. After impressive performances, he signed for Sporting CP, where he spent a year before signing for French club Rennes.
