Ultra (also recording as Rider) was an English boy band, which was most successful in the late 1990s. The original line-up consisted of James Hearn (born 19 June 1976; vocals), Michael Harwood (born 12 December 1975; guitar and vocals ), Jon O'Mahony (born 10 August 1973; drums and vocals ) and Nick Keynes (born 3 May 1972; bass and vocals ). History Early career Although sometimes mistakenly described as a manufactured boyband, Ultra was originally formed by James Hearn, James Rose, Michael Harwood and Jon O'Mahony who were schoolfriends from Buckinghamshire, England in the mid-1990s. After they left school, they formed various bands, playing under names such as Stepping Stoned, Decade and Suburban Surfers. James Hearn
James Daniel Guy Hearn (born 19 June 1976 in Denham, Buckinghamshire, England) is an English singer-songwriter. He is best known as being the vocalist of boyband Ultra. Biography Hearn attended the same high school as Ultra's guitarist and drummer, Mike Harwood and Jon O'Mahony, respectively, where they met. He was in the same class as Harwood, and O'Mahony was a couple of years older. Hearn went on to the University of Leeds and studied Geography and Management, graduating in 1999. He was once a pentathlon athlete, but when he realized that sport was not the highest paid career choice, he turned to music. Jon O'Mahony (born 10 August 1973) is a British music manager and founder of Rebellion Artists, who currently manage Fraser Churchill, Honey Ryder, Dustin Paul, Starlight Theatre and Fat Buddha. Ian Christopher Stanley (born 28 February 1957) is a British musician, songwriter and record producer. He was previously a member of the English band Tears for Fears for most of the 1980s, and played a key role in the making of their multi-platinum selling second studio album ''Songs from the Big Chair''. Biography Career After offering them free use of his recording facility, Stanley became a member of Tears for Fears, contributing on synthesizers, drum machines, organ, pianos and backing vocals on their first three albums. Blasphemous Rumours / Somebody
"Blasphemous Rumours"/"Somebody" is Depeche Mode's twelfth UK single and first double A-side single, released on 29 October 1984. Both A-side songs are from the album ''Some Great Reward''. Song information Blasphemous Rumours The verses to "Blasphemous Rumours" describe a 16-year-old girl who attempts suicide but fails. She experiences a religious revival but then "Hit by a car / Ended up / On a life support machine" (from the lyrics). The chorus uses these incidents to conclude, "I don't want to start any blasphemous rumours / But I think that God's got a sick sense of humour / And when I die, I expect to find him laughing." Like other songs on ''Some Great Reward'', the song uses a dense sound with extensive sampled percussion. The song stems from the times that Martin Gore would go with bandmate Andy Fletcher and former bandmate Vince Clarke to the church. Depeche Mode are an English electronic music band formed in Basildon, Essex, in 1980.
