''Republikein'' () is an Afrikaans-language newspaper published daily in Namibia and the country's largest Afrikaans-language newspaper in terms of print circulation. Its editor-in-chief is Dani Booysen. History The newspaper was founded by Dirk Mudge in December 1977 under the name ''Die Republikein''. It served as a mouthpiece of the Republican Party of Namibia (RP) at that time. The first editor was Johannes Petrus Spies. When the RP joined the Democratic Turnhalle Alliance (DTA), a merger of several parties, the newspaper became the unofficial organ of the DTA. Democratic Media Holdings
Namibia Media Holdings (NMH, previously Democratic Media Holdings, DMH) is a publishing house in Namibia. Founded in 1992, it publishes three major Namibian newspapers, the Afrikaans-language ''Republikein'', the German ''Allgemeine Zeitung'', and the ''Namibian Sun'' in English. It also runs the Newsprint Namibia printing works, and the radio station ''99FM''. History NMH developed from the Republikein Group, the publishing house of the ''Republikein'', Namibia's only daily in Afrikaans founded in 1977 by Dirk Mudge. The ''Namibian Sun'' is a daily tabloid newspaper in Namibia. It was launched on 20 September 2007 as a weekly tabloid newspaper published on Thursdays. The initial print run was planned to be 36,000 copies. The paper publishes mostly in English with some pages in '' Oshiwambo'' and targets a readership aged between 18 and 40. It has been published daily since 2010. Dirk Mudge
Dirk Frederik Mudge (16 January 192826 August 2020) was a Namibian politician. He served in several high-ranking positions in the South African administration of South West Africa, was the chairman of the 1975–1977 Turnhalle Constitutional Conference, and co-founded the Republican Party (RP) of Namibia as well as the Democratic Turnhalle Alliance (DTA), now known as the Popular Democratic Movement (PDM). At Namibian independence, Mudge was a member of the Constituent Assembly and 1st National Assembly until he retired in 1993. Mudge was the founder of Namibia's Afrikaans daily ''Die Republikein'' and its publisher Namibia Media Holdings. He served on the board of directors until 2008. Liberal conservatism is a political ideology combining conservative policies with liberal stances, especially on economic issues but also on social and ethical matters, representing a brand of political conservatism strongly influenced by liberalism. Afrikaans (, ) is a West Germanic languages, West Germanic language that evolved in the Dutch Cape Colony from the Dutch dialects, Dutch vernacular of Holland, Holland proper (i.e., the Hollandic dialect) used by Dutch, French, and German settlers and Slavery in South Africa, their enslaved people. The Republican Party () is a political party in Namibia. It is based among the white minority. Henk Mudge was its President and its sole representative in the National Assembly. Prior to the 2004 parliamentary election, the Republican Party was part of the Democratic Turnhalle Alliance (DTA). Johannes is a Medieval Latin form of the personal name that usually appears as "John" in English language contexts. Democratic Turnhalle Alliance
The Popular Democratic Movement (PDM), formerly the Democratic Turnhalle Alliance (DTA), is an amalgamation of political parties in Namibia, registered as one singular party for representation purposes. In coalition with the United Democratic Front, it formed the official opposition in Parliament until the parliamentary elections in 2009. The party currently holds 16 seats in the Namibian National Assembly and one seat in the Namibian National Council and is the official opposition. McHenry Venaani is president of the PDM.
