Rena Wang
Rena Wang (born August 15, 1991) is an American badminton player. She was invited by the Badminton World Federation to compete at the Badminton at the 2012 Summer Olympics, 2012 Olympics in the women’s singles event. Her sister, Iris Wang, is also a badminton player and her doubles partner. Rena Wang won bronze in the women’s singles and women’s doubles events with her sister at the 2009 Pan Am Badminton Championships at Guadalajara, Mexico. School life Rena Wang graduated from UCLA in 2014, with summa cum laude honors in the physiological sciences department. Badminton
Badminton is a racquet sport played using racquets to hit a shuttlecock across a net. Although it may be played with larger teams, the most common forms of the game are "singles" (with one player per side) and "doubles" (with two players per side). Badminton is often played as a casual outdoor activity in a yard or on a beach; formal games are played on a rectangular indoor court. Points are scored by striking the shuttlecock with the racquet and landing it within the opposing side's half of the court. Each side may only strike the shuttlecock once before it passes over the net. Play ends once the shuttlecock has struck the floor or if a fault has been called by the umpire, service judge, or (in their absence) the opposing side. Badminton World Federation
The Badminton World Federation (BWF) is the international governing body for the sport of badminton recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). It was founded in 1934 as the International Badminton Federation (IBF) with nine member nations (Canada, Denmark, England, France, Ireland, Netherlands, New Zealand, Scotland and Wales). In 1981 the IBF merged with the World Badminton Federation, and on 24 September 2006, at the Extraordinary General Meeting in Madrid, the name of the organization was changed to Badminton World Federation (BWF). When the BWF was founded (as the IBF), its head office was located in Cheltenham, UK. The head office was relocated to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on October 1, 2005. Badminton At The 2012 Summer Olympics
The badminton tournaments at the 2012 Olympic Games in London took place between 28 July and 5 August at Wembley Arena. A total of 172 athletes competed in five events: men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles. The women's doubles tournament was marred by several disqualifications during the group stage for unethical play. All of the gold medals were won by players from China. The Chinese team also collected two silvers and one bronze, to top the medal table with eight in total. Denmark finished in second place, with one silver and one bronze won. Competition format For the first time there was a combination of group play and knockout stages in the Olympic badminton tournament, following its introduction at the 2010 Youth Summer Olympics in Singapore. Iris Wang (born September 2, 1994) is an American badminton player who competed at the Badminton at the 2016 Summer Olympics, 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Personal life Wang was born in Pasadena, California, on September 2, 1994, to China, Chinese parents. Her older sister, Rena Wang, is also an international badminton player.
