Remington House is a historic home located at Kinne Corners in Herkimer County, New York. It is a -story, rectangular, gable-roofed dwelling constructed of locally quarried fieldstone. It was built about 1810 (1799 according to the historical marker) by Eliphalet Remington and occupied by the Remington family during the formative period of their firearms manufacturing enterprises, Remington Arms. Frankfort (town), New York
Frankfort is a town in Herkimer County, New York, United States. The town is named after one of its earliest settlers, Lawrence (Lewis) Frank. The town of Frankfort includes a village, also called Frankfort. Frankfort is located east of Utica, and the Erie Canal passes along its northern border. At the time of the 2010 census, the population was 7,636. Frankfort is home to the Great American Irish Festival, held within the Herkimer County Fairgrounds. History The first European settlers in this area were German Palatines who came to the colony as religious refugees in 1723. During the French and Indian War, this area suffered fierce attacks by the French with their Indian allies, and the settlers abandoned much of the area. Herkimer County is a county in the U.S. state of New York. As of the 2020 census, the population was 60,139. Its county seat is Herkimer. The county was created in 1791 north of the Mohawk River out of part of Montgomery County. It is named after General Nicholas Herkimer, who died from battle wounds in 1777 after taking part in the Battle of Oriskany during the Revolutionary War. Herkimer County is part of the Utica–Rome Metropolitan Statistical Area. Eliphalet Remington (October 28, 1793 – August 12, 1861) was an American engineer who founded what would become known as Remington Arms. Originally the company was known as ''E. Remington'' followed by ''E. Remington & Son'' and then ''E. Remington and Sons''. Early years Eliphalet Remington II was born in 1793 in the town of Suffield, Connecticut. He was the second child of four surviving children (but the only son) of Elizabeth (née Kilbourn) and Eliphalet Remington, whose family origins lay in Yorkshire, England.
