Remaking Cities Institute
The Remaking Cities Institute (RCI) is an urban design research center in Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Architecture in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It conducts international research in place-making, citizen participation planning processes, and sustainable development. Background About the Institute The Remaking Cities Institute (RCI) works to enhance the relationship between research, academic work, and urban development for both the Pittsburgh region and internationally. Urban Design
Urban design is an approach to the design of buildings and the spaces between them that focuses on specific design processes and outcomes. In addition to designing and shaping the physical features of towns, cities, and regional spaces, urban design considers 'bigger picture' issues of economic, social and environmental value and social design. Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) is a private research university in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Carnegie Mellon School of Architecture in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is a degree-granting institution, one of five divisions of Carnegie Mellon University's College of Fine Arts. It succeeds the Department of Architecture founded by Henry Hornbostle in 1906, the architect who designed the original campus. It continues to offer a five–year undergraduate first professional Bachelor of Architecture degree, and a two to three–year graduate Master of Architecture first professional degree. Urbanism is the study of how inhabitants of urban areas, such as towns and cities, interact with the built environment.
