Rekha is an Indian actress who has had a prolific career in Hindi films, and is acknowledged as one of the finest actresses of Indian cinema. She first appeared as a child artist in two Telugu-language films '' Inti Guttu'' (1958) and '' Rangula Ratnam'' (1966), but her career as a lead started with the Kannada film ''Operation Jackpot Nalli C.I.D 999'' in 1969. In that same year, she starred in her first Hindi film, ''Anjana Safar'', which was delayed for ten years due to censorship problems. Her first Hindi release was ''Sawan Bhadon'' (1970), a commercial success which established her as a rising star. ''Ijaazat'' () is an 1987 Indian Hindi-language musical romance film directed by Gulzar, based on a Bengali story, ''Jatugriha'' by Subodh Ghosh. ''Utsav'' (Hindi: उत्सव; English: Festival) is a 1984 Hindi erotic drama film, produced by Shashi Kapoor and directed by Girish Karnad. The film is based on play '' Mrichakatika'' (''The Little Clay Cart'') by Śūdraka. The film stars Shankar Nag, Shashi Kapoor, Rekha, Amjad Khan, Anuradha Patel, Shekhar Suman, Anupam Kher, Neena Gupta, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Annu Kapoor, Sanjana Kapoor and Kunal Kapoor. The role of Samsthanak is played by Shashi Kapoor, who is also the producer of the movie. It was originally supposed to be played by Amitabh Bachchan. ''Kalyug'' (''Age of vice'') is a 1981 Indian Hindi-language crime drama film, directed by Shyam Benegal. It is known as a modern-day adaption of the Indian epic Mahabharat, depicting an archetypal conflict between rival business houses. ''Kalyug'' went on to win the Filmfare Award for Best Film in 1982 and was among the only three Indian films which were submitted to the Academy Awards. Parallel cinema, or New Indian Cinema, is a film movement in Indian cinema that originated in the state of West Bengal in the 1950s as an alternative to the mainstream commercial Indian cinema.
