Rees River
The Rees River (Māori language: ''Puahiri'' or ''Puahere'') is a headwater tributary of the Clutha River / Mata-Au that drains eastward of the main divide of the Southern Alps / Kā Tiritiri o te Moana in New Zealand. The river runs 41 km, drains an area of 406 km2, and discharges into the head of Lake Wakatipu at Glenorchy. Bound by the Richardson (''Whakaari'') Mountains to the east and the Forbes Mountains to the west, its snow-covered headwaters rise above 2000 m. The upper parts of the Rees River occupy a formerly glaciated valley that was fed by the Tyndall Glacier, which now drains into the adjacent Dart Valley. Below Rees Saddle the river valley is constrained by a series of steep alluvial fans that are fed from tributary basins. The lithology of the Rees catchment is highly erodible schist of the Aspiring lithologic association. The underlying schist is highly fissive due to its fine-grain, segregated quart-feldspar-mica composition.McSaveney, M.J., Glassey ...

4587 Rees
4587 Rees, provisional designation ', is a Mars-crosser and former near-Earth object on an eccentric orbit from the asteroid belt, approximately in diameter. It was discovered during the second Palomar–Leiden Trojan survey on 30 September 1973, by Dutch astronomer couple Ingrid and Cornelis van Houten at Leiden, and Tom Gehrels at the Palomar Observatory in California. The assumed S-type asteroid has a rotation period of 7.9 hours and is likely elongated in shape. It was named after British astrophysicist Martin Rees. Orbit and classification ''Rees'' is a Mars-crossing asteroid, a dynamically unstable group between the main belt and the near-Earth populations, crossing the orbit of Mars at 1.66  AU. It orbits the Sun at a distance of 1.31–4.01  AU once every 4 years and 4 months (1,583 days; semi-major axis of 2.66 AU). Its orbit has a high eccentricity of 0.51 and an inclination of 25 ° with respect to the ecliptic. The body's observation arc begins with ...

Rees Algebra
In commutative algebra, the Rees algebra of an ideal ''I'' in a commutative ring ''R'' is defined to be R t\bigoplus_^ I^n t^n\subseteq R The extended Rees algebra of ''I'' (which some authors refer to as the Rees algebra of ''I'') is defined asR t,t^\bigoplus_^I^nt^n\subseteq R ,t^This construction has special interest in algebraic geometry since the projective scheme defined by the Rees algebra of an ideal in a ring is the blowing-up of the spectrum of the ring along the subscheme defined by the ideal.Eisenbud-Harris, ''The geometry of schemes''. Springer-Verlag, 197, 2000 Properties * Assume ''R'' is Noetherian; then ''R t' is also Noetherian. The Krull dimension of the Rees algebra is \dim R t\dim R+1 if ''I'' is not contained in any prime ideal ''P'' with \dim(R/P)=\dim R; otherwise \dim R t\dim R. The Krull dimension of the extended Rees algebra is \dim R t, t^\dim R+1. * If J\subseteq I are ideals in a Noetherian ring ''R'', then the ring extension R tsubseteq R t/math> i ...

Rees's Cyclopædia
Rees's ''Cyclopædia'', in full ''The Cyclopædia; or, Universal Dictionary of Arts, Sciences, and Literature'' was an important 19th-century British encyclopaedia edited by Rev. Abraham Rees (1743–1825), a Presbyterian minister and scholar who had edited previous editions of '' Chambers's Cyclopædia''. Background When Rees was planning his ''Cyclopædia'', Europe was in the aftermath of the French Revolution, and during serialised publication (1802–1820) the Napoleonic Wars and War of 1812 occurred. Britain absorbed into its empire a number of the former French and Dutch colonies around the world; Romanticism came to the fore; evangelical Christianity flourished with the efforts of William Wilberforce; and factory manufacture burgeoned. With this background, philosophical radicalism was suspect in Britain, and aspects of the ''Cyclopædia'' were thought to be distinctly subversive and attracted the hostility of the Loyalist press. Contributors Jeremiah Joyce and Char ...
