Reel Rock Film Tour
Reel Rock is an annual traveling film festival and online subscription service that focuses on rock climbing and outdoor adventure films produced by Sender Films. The films are shown at screening events, spanning over 500 worldwide, and on Reel Rock Unlimited. 2023 will be the tour's 17th year. The festival's founders are Peter Mortimer (filmmaker), Peter Mortimer and Josh Lowell. Content Reel Rock screens climbing and adventure films to audiences around the world through a festival each year, and through their streaming app Reel Rock Unlimited. Each year, Reel Rock produces short films covering all climbing disciplines, including rock climbing, sport climbing, bouldering, ice climbing, mountaineering and free soloing. Peter Mortimer (born January 28, 1974) is an Emmy-winning American filmmaker from Colorado. He is best known for being the creator of the Reel Rock Film Tour, as well as the director of feature documentaries ''The Alpinist'', '' The Dawn Wall'' and ''Valley Uprising''. He has produced and directed multiple films related to rock climbing, mountaineering, and outdoor adventure under the production group Sender Films. Rock climbing is a sport in which participants climb up, across, or down natural rock formations. The goal is to reach the summit of a formation or the endpoint of a usually pre-defined route without falling. Sport Climbing
Sport climbing (or Bolted climbing) is a form of rock climbing that relies on permanent anchors (or bolts), permanently fixed into the rock for climber protection, in which a rope that is attached to the climber is clipped into the anchors to arrest a fall; it can also involve climbing short distances with a crash pad underneath as protection. This is in contrast to traditional climbing where climbers must place removable protection as they climb. Sport climbing usually involves lead climbing and toproping techniques, but free solo and deep-water solo (i.e. no protection) climbing on sport routes is also sometimes possible. Bouldering
Bouldering is a form of free climbing that is performed on small rock formations or artificial rock walls without the use of ropes or harnesses. While bouldering can be done without any equipment, most climbers use climbing shoes to help secure footholds, chalk to keep their hands dry and to provide a firmer grip, and bouldering mats to prevent injuries from falls. Unlike free solo climbing, which is also performed without ropes, bouldering problems (the sequence of moves that a climber performs to complete the climb) are usually less than tall. Free Soloing
Free solo climbing, or free soloing, is a form of technical ice or rock climbing where the climbers (or ''free soloists'') climb alone without ropes, harnesses or other protective equipment, forcing them to rely entirely on their own individual preparation, strength, and skill. Margo Hayes (born February 11, 1998) is an American professional rock climber from Boulder, Colorado. In 2016, she won both the Bouldering and Lead Climbing events at the World Youth Championships in Guangzhou ( China). In 2017, she became the first woman in history to climb a graded route.
