Redux (EP)
''Redux'' is an EP by British crust punk band Amebix. It is a three-track studio release with a bonus downloadable live track. The album was recorded in 2009 after original Amebix members Rob and Stig met with drummer Roy Mayorga (Stone Sour, Soulfly, Nausea) to record some songs for a documentary about the band. The first three tracks are re-recordings of older songs while the fourth track was recorded live on their US re-union tour in 2009. The album was released in CD, vinyl, and digital format. Both the CD and vinyl versions had the first three songs with a card for a download of the digital version, which included the live bonus track. Amebix
Amebix were an English crust punk band. Formed as the Band with No Name, the band's original run was from 1978 to 1987, during which time they released two EPs and three albums. The group reunited in 2008, released another full-length album in 2011, and disbanded again in November 2012. Roy Mayorga
Roy Mayorga (born April 6, 1970) is an American musician, best known as the drummer of heavy metal bands Hellyeah and Stone Sour and is currently the drummer for the industrial metal band Ministry. Early life Mayorga was born in Forest Hills, Queens, New York City, on April 6, 1970, to Cuban and Ecuadorian parents. At four years old, his family moved to Florida. While growing up, his parents would often play Motown music and rhythm and blues, which were his earliest exposures to music. He eventually became a fan of Kiss through his older brother, which led him to become interested in rock music. He began playing drums at six years old. His parents soon divorced, leading to him moving to Allentown, Pennsylvania, where he became involved in the local punk rock scene. ''Monolith'' is the third studio album by the British crust punk band Amebix, released in 1987 by Heavy Metal Records. Shortly after its release, Amebix disbanded, and ''Monolith'' would be their final studio album until they reunited in 2008 and released ''Sonic Mass'' in 2011. The album was re-released in 2008 as a sliding-scale download by Moshpit Tragedy Records. The album was remastered and re-released again in 2016 on Easy Action Records. Crust Punk
Crust punk (also known as crust or stenchcore) is a form of music influenced by English punk rock and extreme metal. The style, which evolved in the early 1980s in England, often has songs with dark and pessimistic lyrics that linger on political and social ills. The term "crust" was coined by Hellbastard on their 1986 ''Ripper Crust'' demo.Glasper 2009, 185 Crust is partly defined by its " bassy" and "dirty" sound. It is often played at a fast tempo with occasional slow sections. Vocals are usually raspy screams, but can also be grunted/growled. Crust punk takes cues from the anarcho-punk of Crass and Discharge and the heavy metal of bands like Venom, Trouble, Hellhammer, Celtic Frost, Black Sabbath and Motörhead. Rob Miller (musician)
Rob Miller, also known by the stage name the Baron Rockin Von Aphid or simply the Baron or Aphid, is an English musician and swordsmith. Beginning his musical career in 1978, he is primarily known as the lead vocalist and bass player of pioneering crust punk band Amebix. He also plays in the international supergroup Tau Cross (band), Tau Cross. Early life Miller grew up near Tavistock in Devon with his older brother Chris. His father was a gunsmith, descended from Scottish mercenaries who fought for royals in Sweden and Norway. He spent his childhood playing with submachine guns and flintlocks. Career Amebix: 1978–1987 When Miller was involuntarily discharged from the airforce in 1978, due to being intoxicated while on duty when stationed in the Netherlands. Stone Sour
Stone Sour is an American rock band formed in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1992. The band performed for five years before disbanding in 1997. They reunited in 2000 and since 2015, the group has consisted of Corey Taylor (lead vocals, guitar), Josh Rand (guitar), Christian Martucci (guitar), Johny Chow (bass) and Roy Mayorga (drums). Longtime members Joel Ekman (drums, percussion) and Shawn Economaki (bass guitar) left the band in 2006 and 2011, respectively. Former lead guitarist Jim Root left in 2014. Soulfly
Soulfly is an American heavy metal band formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1997, and later based out of Phoenix, Arizona. Soulfly is led by former Sepultura frontman Max Cavalera, who formed the band after he left the Brazilian group in 1996. Nausea (band)
Nausea was an American hardcore punk band from New York City, active from 1985 to 1992. They are cited as a notable band in the first wave of crust punk. Prior to Nausea, guitarist Victor Dominicis played in the hardcore punk bands Hellbent and Sacrilege. Nausea were involved in the New York City Lower East Side squatting community. Their earlier sound with singers Amy Miret and Neil Robinson was in the vein of hardcore punk. After Robinson's departure, he was replaced by Al Long and the band began to experiment with darker, metal influences. Robinson went on to form the bands Jesus Crust and Final Warning, as well as start Tribal War Records. Lyrics and musical style Nausea's apocalyptic lyrics and artwork were influenced by the sociopolitical issues of the day, such as the Reagan Administration, the US-USSR Cold War, and threats of nuclear war with the USSR. ''Arise!'' is the second album by the British crust punk band Amebix. It was released on 14 September 1985 by Alternative Tentacles and reissued on CD and vinyl in 2000 with two bonus tracks recorded in 1987. The album was remastered a second time in 2014. "The Moor" is based upon "Requiem" by György Ligeti, famously used in the Lunar monolith sequence in '' 2001: A Space Odyssey''. "Largactyl" is a misspelled version of the proprietary name the antipsychotic medication chlorpromazine. It was written in response to (and somewhat in honour of) previous drummer Martin Baker being diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and being involuntarily institutionalised by his parents.
