Redsan
Swabri Mohammed (born 1 May 1981), better known by his stage name Redsan, is a Kenyan reggae and ragga musician. He is one of the most well renowned ragga and dancehall artists in East Africa. His popularity has extended to the rest of Africa, and parts of Europe, United States, and the Middle East. Beginnings Mohammed was born on 1 May 1981. He was raised in the informal housing sector in Majengo, Nairobi, Majengo in Nairobi, Kenya. His home of origin is coast and he belongs to the Mijikenda tribe of Duruma. His first album, ''Seasons of the San'', was released in 2002 under the Ogopa Deejays label. Redsan's career propelled to higher heights with more international shows after the release of his first album. His second album ''Red'' (2004), and his third album ''Pioneer'' (2006) were also big hits. Demarco (musician)
Collin Demar Edwards (born 1982), better known by his stage name Demarco, is a Jamaican dancehall and reggae recording artist. Background The people behind Ogopa DJs are brothers Francis and Lucas Bikedo, and manager Banda. The team started out producing hit songs for artists such as Bebe Cool, Chameleone and Redsan. They are widely acclaimed to have helped boost the Kenyan urban music scene from obscurity. They are also credited with creating the Boomba (sometimes referred to as Kapuka) style of Kenyan music which is modern hip hop and dancehall influenced by African drums and rhythms. Jose Chameleone
Joseph Mayanja (born 30 April 1979), better known by the stage name Jose Chameleone, is a Ugandan AfroBeat artist and musician. Chameleone sings in Luganda, English and Swahili. He started his music career in the early 1990s in Kenya with the Ogopa Deejays, a Kenyan record label then. Chameleone's music style is a mixture of Ugandan folk, central African rumba, zouk, and reggae. Kora Awards
The KORA All Africa Music Awards are music awards given annually for musical achievement in sub-Saharan Africa. The awards were founded in 1994 by Benin born businessman, Ernest Adjovi, after a discussion in Namibia with the country's President Hage Geingob. The award is named after the kora, a West African plucked chordophone. The awards have been subject to several postponements since 1994 with a variety of reasons given. Problems have arisen with contracts signed, large sums of monies have been paid and the event postponed. In 2011 Adjovi was detained by the Nigerian Police Force with allegations he defrauded three Nigerian bodies. In 2008 Adjovi allegedly accepted S2.5 million for the 2008 Awards to be hosted by the Cross River State Government. He later allegedly struck an agreement with the Lagos State Government for US$7.5 million but the awards were not staged until 2010 in Burkina Faso.
