Red House Hospital
The Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital of Fudan University (), commonly known as the Red House Hospital (), is a teaching hospital in Shanghai, China, affiliated with the Shanghai Medical College of Fudan University. It is rated Grade 3, Class A, the highest rating in the Chinese medical system. Founded in 1884 as Margaret Williamson Memorial Hospital for Women and Children, by Elizabeth Reifsnyder, it was the first hospital opened in Shanghai exclusively for the care of Chinese women and children. It was located on Siccawei Road in the Shanghai French Concession, outside the West Gate (Ximen) of the Chinese city (now in Huangpu District); for this reason, it was commonly known as the Ximen or West Gate Hospital (). Huangpu District, Shanghai
Huangpu District (), makes up the eastern part of Shanghai's traditional urban core and is today the most central of Shanghai's 16 districts. Huangpu district is the seat of municipal government, includes key attractions such as The Bund and the Old City God Temple, as well as popular shopping districts such as Nanjing Road, Huaihai Road and Xintiandi. Fuzhou (; , Fuzhounese: Hokchew, ''Hók-ciŭ''), alternately romanized as Foochow, is the capital and one of the largest cities in Fujian province, China. Along with the many counties of Ningde, those of Fuzhou are considered to constitute the Mindong (lit. Eastern Fujian) linguistic and cultural area. Origins and history before 1949 The Red Cross Society of China was founded as the Shanghai International Red Cross Committee on March 10, 1904, during the Russo-Japanese War. The Battle of Shanghai () was the first of the twenty-two major engagements fought between the National Revolutionary Army (NRA) of the Republic of China (ROC) and the Imperial Japanese Army (IJA) of the Empire of Japan at the beginning of the Second Sino-Japanese War. Isabella Fisher Hospital
Isabella Fisher Hospital (伊塞貝勒醫院; also Hospital for Women and Children, Tientsin) was located in Tianjin, China. Built in 1881 and opened in 1882, it was founded by the Methodist Episcopal Church (South). Leonara Howard King, M.D., was in charge of a small hospital for women in Beijing at the time of the serious illness of Lady Li, the wife Li Hongzhang, Viceroy of Zhili. At Dr. John Kenneth MacKenzie's suggestion, she was invited to visit Tianjin by Li Hongzhang, in order to make an examination which was deemed important by the European local surgeons, but which Chinese etiquette forbade their undertaking.
