Recognition Of Same-sex Unions In Montenegro
Montenegro has recognised same-sex unions since 15 July 2021 in form of life partnerships. In July 2020, the Parliament of Montenegro passed a bill, by 42 votes to 5, to recognise life partnerships for same-sex couples offering several, but not all, of the rights and benefits of marriage. The bill was signed into law on 3 July 2020 by President Milo Đukanović, and took effect on 15 July 2021. Background The Constitution of Montenegro was ratified in 2007, one year after independence. Article 71 of the Constitution reads as follows: "Marriage may be entered into only on the basis of a free consent of a woman and a man. Marriage shall be based on equality of spouses." The wording has been interpreted as banning same-sex marriage. Goran Danilović
Goran Danilović (Serbian Cyrillic: Горан Даниловић, born in 1971 in Podgorica) is a Montenegrin politician, former member of Parliament of Montenegro and former Minister of Internal Affairs. In 2016 he was the founder and was named the first president of the conservative political party called United Montenegro. Biography Early life Danilović was born in 1971 in Podgorica which at the time was a part of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. For the Benefit of All ( cnr, Da svako ima / Да свако има) was an opposition catch-all and pro-EU political alliance in Montenegro. It is composed of the Socialist People's Party (SNP), United Montenegro (UCG) and Workers' Party (RP), as well as some independents. The main goal of the alliance was to overthrow the ruling Democratic Party of Socialists of Montenegro (DPS) of President Milo Đukanović, which has been in power since its founding in 1991. DEMOS (Montenegro)
DEMOS (acronym of Demokratski savez, ; cnr, Демократски савез, ДЕМОС) is a centrist to centre-right political party in Montenegro. Party founder and current leader is Miodrag Lekić, who is also serving as the party's single MP in the Parliament of Montenegro.
