RecipeBridge
RecipeBridge is a vertical search engine for recipes, founded by Milwaukee based entrepreneurs Andy Theimer and Bill Brennan. It was established in December 2007 and a beta version was launched in 2008 which makes it the oldest dedicated recipe search engine on the web. The current version was launched in April, 2009. As of July 2011, it searches through 350 different recipe sites and blogs with over 1.7 million recipes. A vertical search engine is distinct from a general web search engine, in that it focuses on a specific segment of online content. They are also called specialty or topical search engines. The vertical content area may be based on topicality, media type, or genre of content. Common verticals include shopping, the automotive industry, legal information, medical information, scholarly literature, job search and travel. Examples of vertical search engines include the Library of Congress, Mocavo, Nuroa, Trulia, and Yelp. A recipe is a set of instructions that describes how to prepare or make something, especially a dish of prepared food.
