Rebecca Kadaga
Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga (born 24 May 1956) is a Ugandan lawyer and politician who served as the Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda from 19 May 2011 until 21 May 2021. She currently serves as the First Deputy Prime Minister of Uganda. She concurrently serves as Minister for East African Community Affairs, in the Cabinet of Uganda. She is the first woman to be elected Speaker in the history of the Parliament of Uganda. She succeeded Edward Ssekandi, who served as Speaker from 2001 to 2011. She is also the current Member of Parliament (MP) for the Kamuli District Women's Constituency, Busoga sub-region, a position she has held since 1989. Busoga Sub-region
Busoga sub-region is found in Eastern Uganda occupying an area of over 10,000 square kilometers and according to the 2014 national census about 40 percent of the people in the eastern region live in this sub-region. Busoga consists of the following districts: * Bugiri District * Bugweri District * Buyende District * Iganga District * Jinja District * Kaliro District * Kamuli District * Luuka District * Mayuge District * Namayingo District * Namutumba District The area covered by the above districts constitutes the traditional Busoga Kingdom. Kamuli District is a district in the Eastern Region of Uganda. The town of Kamuli is the site of the district headquarters. Location Kamuli District is bordered by Buyende District to the north, Luuka District to the east, Jinja District to the south, and Kayunga District to the west. The district headquarters at Kamuli are approximately , by road, north of Jinja, the largest city in the Busoga sub-region. The parliament of Uganda is the country's legislative body. Unicameral, the most significant of the Ugandan parliament's functions is to pass laws that will provide good governance in the country.
