Rebecca Allen (artist)
Rebecca Allen is an internationally recognized digital artist inspired by the aesthetics of motion, the study of perception and behavior and the potential of advanced technology. Her artwork, which spans four decades and takes the form of experimental video, large-scale performances, live simulations and virtual and augmented reality art installations, addresses issues of gender, identity and what it means to be human as technology redefines our sense of reality. Early life Allen began her art practice in the early 1970s while working toward a B.F.A. degree at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). She received her Master of Science degree in 1980 from the Architecture Machine Group (predecessor to the MIT Media Lab) at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. "Musique Non Stop" is a 1986 single by German techno group Kraftwerk, which was featured on the album ''Electric Café''. It was re-released as a remix on their 1991 album '' The Mix''. The single was their first number one on ''Billboard'' Hot Dance Club Play and was one of two songs to make it to number one there. Background and composition "Musique Non Stop"s lyrics comprise the title of the song being repeatedly chanted by a female voice, which is the voice of the music video's animation artist Rebecca Allen, in English and a computerized male voice in French. Universal Concepts Unlimited (UCU) was a pioneering art gallery in Chelsea, Manhattan, New York City that investigated the artistic merit of new technologies based on the emerging digital art scene. UCU existed between the years 2000 and 2006. It was owned and run by Wolf-Dieter Stoeffelmeier and Marian Ziola.
