Raymond Strid
Raymond Strid (born 1956 in Stockholm, Sweden) is a Swedish drummer in the genre of free jazz and the new European improvised music. Biography When Strid picked up drumming, he was inspired by musicians like Han Bennink, Paul Lytton, and Tony Oxley. He started his musical career relatively late. His debut concert was in September 1977, after first playing with a variety of local bands in Stockholm. In 1988 he founded the 'GUSH' trio together with saxophonist Mats Gustafsson and the pianist Sten Sandell. Since that time Strid has played in a series of bands and projects, such as in the trio Guy/Gustafsson/Strid, Marilyn Crispell/Anders Jormin/Raymond Strid and the Free Jazz trio LSB with Fredrik Ljungkvist and Johan Berthling. Fredrik Ljungkvist
Håkan ''Fredrik'' Ljungkvist (born 29 November 1969 in Kristinehamn, Sweden), is a Swedish jazz musician (saxophone and clarinet), the son of saxophonist Håkan Ljungkvist and married to the jazz singer Lina Nyberg. Career Ljungkvist was raised in Lidköping, and studied at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm (1989–93). As jazz student he played with jazz bands in Stockholm, like Fredrik Noren Band, Lina Nyberg Group and Per "Texas" Johansson band. In 1993 he formed his own Quartet with whom he released two albums. In 2000 he composed a 30 minutes long piece for the Pipeline project, a collaboration between 16 Swedish and American musicians on initiative by the Svenska Rikskonserter. The piece was performed in Chicago and Sweden. Per Zanussi (born 1977) is an Italian–Norwegian jazz musician (upright bass) and composer, known from several bands and releases such as with Hamid Drake, Louis Moholo, Paal Nilssen-Love, Bobby Bradford, Sabir Mateen, Franklin Kiermyer, Stephen O'Malley, Axel Dörner, Petter Wettre, Fred Lonberg-Holm, Bugge Wesseltoft, Mats Gustafsson, Kjetil Møster, Kevin Norton, Ivar Grydeland, Ernesto Rodrigues, Tetuzi Akiyama, and Håvard Wiik. Career Zanussi was born in Oslo and was educated on the Jazz program at Trondheim Musikkonservatorium and at Norges Musikkhøgskole. He was one of the initiators of the band Wibutee from Trondheim (1996–2004), with Håkon Kornstad and Wetle Holte. Ken Vandermark (born September 22, 1964) is an American composer, saxophonist, and clarinetist. A fixture on the Chicago-area music scene since the 1990s, Vandermark has earned wide critical praise for his playing and his multilayered compositions, which typically balance intricate orchestration with passionate improvisation. He has led or been a member of many groups, has collaborated with many other musicians, and was awarded a 1999 MacArthur Fellowship. ''You Forget to Answer'' is a live album by bassist Barry Guy, saxophonist Mats Gustafsson, and percussionist Raymond Strid. Five of the album's tracks were recorded on November 16, 1994, at BBC London, while the remaining tracks were recorded on July 24, 1995, at Jazz Gallery Nickelsdorf, Austria. The album was released in 1996 by Maya Recordings. In addition to appearing on soprano, tenor, and baritone saxophones, Gustafsson is also heard on fluteophone, a flute with a saxophone mouthpiece attached to one end, and a clarinet stand stuck into the other. ''Spring Tour'' is a live album by pianist Marilyn Crispell, bassist Anders Jormin, and drummer Raymond Strid. It was recorded at Club Village in Västerås, Sweden and Club Fasching in Stockholm, Sweden in March 1994, and was released in 1995 by Alice Musik Produktion. Dragon Records
Dragon Records is a Swedish record company and label established in 1975 by journalist Lars Westin (born 1948) and pianist Jan Wallgren (1935-1996). It concentrates on Swedish jazz. As of 2002, the company was run by Westin. Dragon has issued several hundred albums by Swedish jazz musicians, both historic and contemporary recordings, and aural documentation of visits to Sweden by American musicians, among others including Stan Getz, Sonny Rollins, Thelonious Monk and Lee Konitz. The label has issued a series of CDs by Lars Gullin featuring much of his recordings from the 1950s (at present, January 2018, eleven volumes have been released). It also released a four-CD set of visits by Miles Davis with John Coltrane and Sonny Stitt in 1960 and 1961. The company should not be confused with a different company that released Sisqó's albums in mid-1999 to 2002. Dror Elimelech Feiler ( he, דרור אלימלך פיילר; born 31 August 1951) is an Israeli-born Swedish musician, artist and left-wing activist. He is married to the artist Gunilla Sköld-Feiler. Early life and career Feiler was born in Tel Aviv in 1951 to Eliezer and Pnina Feiler, and moved with his family to kibbutz Yad Hana in 1967. His father, Eliezer Feiler, was a left-wing activist. In 1978, he and others secretly met with a group of Palestine Liberation Organization representatives in Bucharest while it was still illegal. Eliezer Feiler was tried and eventually sentenced to six months of community service and a Israeli pound, IL4,000 fine. The fine was paid, but the sentence was never served because, while the legal process was ongoing, the law had changed and it was no longer illegal to meet with members of the PLO.
