Raymond Arnold
Raymond Arnold (b.1950) is an Australian printmaker and painter based in Queenstown, Tasmania. Career Born in Melbourne, Arnold visited Queenstown, Tasmania during his teens and witnessed the impact mining had on the local landscape. He would later move to the town and feature the Queenstown landscape in his work. Arnold studied art and teaching in Melbourne, and worked as a high school teacher until 1976 when he left to pursue further study at Chisholm Institute. After moving to Tasmania in 1983 he taught art at the University of Tasmania. During the 1990s, Arnold spent time in France further developing his printmaking work. Since 2005 he has lived and worked in Queenstown with his partner, artists Helena Demczuk. They set up Landscape Art Research Queenstown (LARQ) in 2006, which hosted local and international artists over ten years. Printmaking
Printmaking is the process of creating artworks by printing, normally on paper, but also on fabric, wood, metal, and other surfaces. "Traditional printmaking" normally covers only the process of creating prints using a hand processed technique, rather than a photographic reproduction of a visual artwork which would be printed using an electronic machine ( a printer); however, there is some cross-over between traditional and digital printmaking, including risograph. Except in the case of monotyping, all printmaking processes have the capacity to produce identical multiples of the same artwork, which is called a print. Imperial War Museum
Imperial War Museums (IWM) is a British national museum organisation with branches at five locations in England, three of which are in London. The Glover Prize is an Australian annual art prize awarded for paintings of the landscape of Tasmania The prize was inaugurated in 2004 by the John Glover Society, based in Evandale, Tasmania, in honour of the work of British-born landscape painter John Glover, who lived and painted in the area from 1832 until his death in 1849. The current prize amount of A$ 50,000 is the highest for landscape painting in Australia. Fremantle Print Award
The Fremantle Print Award is Australia's longest-running, most prestigious and largest printmaking award, and is awarded by the Fremantle Arts Centre, who also acquire the winning work. The award was established in 1976 with the support of Shell Australia. This partnership continued until 2006. With acquisitive and non-acquisitive awards the prize money totals , with $16,000 for the first place, and $6,000 for second. The awards were put on hiatus for 2020, due to COVID-19. The Musée Courbet or Courbet Museum is a museum dedicated to the French painter Gustave Courbet. It is located in Ornans in the Doubs- Franche-Comté area of France. History The Musée Courbet occupies the birthplace of French realist painter Gustave Courbet, at the Hôtel Hébert, and has about 80 permanent works of the artist. The Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery (QVMAG) is a museum located in Launceston, Tasmania, Australia. The QVMAG is the largest museum in Australia not located in a capital city. History The foundation stone for the original building to house the Victoria Museum and Art Gallery was laid by the Mayor of Launceston, Robert Carter, on 21 June 1887.
