Ray MacDonnell
Ray MacDonnell (March 5, 1928 – June 10, 2021) was an American actor, best known for his role as Dr. Joe Martin, patriarch of the Martin family, on the daytime soap opera ''All My Children'', a role he played for 40 years. Early years MacDonnell was born on March 5, 1928, in Lawrence, Massachusetts. He attended Amherst College subsequently receiving a Fulbright Scholarship to London's Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. Career MacDonnell received a Daytime Emmy Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2004. Prior to appearing on ''All My Children'', he played Philip Capice on the soap ''The Edge of Night'' from 1961 to 69. Other credits included ''Mame'' on Broadway from 1966 to 1970, and as Dick Tracy in 1967. In 2009, MacDonnell retired from ''All My Children''. Production of the show moved from New York to California, marking the end of his 40-year run. Joe Martin (All My Children)
Joe Martin is a fictional character on the ABC Daytime and The Online Network soap opera '' All My Children''. Ray MacDonnell played the character from the show's inception on January 5, 1970, until his retirement on January 5, 2010. He reprised his role for three episodes in March 2011, and again for two episodes in September 2011 for the show's ABC finale. The character is the longest running original character, the second being his former daughter-in-law Erica Kane. In 2005, MacDonnell received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Daytime Emmys. MacDonnell's 2010 retirement was brought on by the production of the show moving from New York to Los Angeles. The character of Joe along with his longtime wife Ruth leave town and retire to Florida. Lee Ann Meriwether (born May 27, 1935) is an American actress, former model, and the winner of the Miss America 1955 pageant. She has appeared in many films and television shows, notably as Betty Jones, the title character's secretary and daughter-in-law in the 1970s crime drama ''Barnaby Jones'' starring Buddy Ebsen.
