Raudonė Castle
Raudonė Castle is a residential castle (estate, manor) of the 19th century in Raudonė, Lithuania. Today it is used as a public school. History Bayersburg II Castle, an old Teutonic castle, stood here until the 16th century. The original castle is the setting of an East Prussian legend known as "The White Maiden of the Bayersburg". Raudonė was a royal manor, which Grand Duke Sigismund II August gave to Prussian merchant Krispin Kirschenstein. He built a Renaissance style manor house with a cylindrical tower on the grounds of the old castle at the end of the 16th century. The 18th century owners of the Raudonė estate, the Olędzki (Olendzki) h. Rawicz family, members of Polish nobility, commissioned Laurynas Stuoka-Gucevičius \ Wawrzyniec Gucewicz to renovate the castle. Raudonė (Samogitian dialect, Samogitian: ''Rauduonė''; pl, Raudań) is a town on the Neman (river), Nemunas River in Tauragė County, Lithuania. The town is primarily known for its castle (Raudonė Castle) and a large park complex. History Raudonė has been traditionally identified as the location of Bayerburg, a castle of the Teutonic Order during the Lithuanian Crusade. A local legend claims that when Gediminas, Grand Duke of Lithuania, attacked the fortress in 1337, he was mortally wounded under the oak tree now known as the Gediminas Oak. However, there is no proof, either from historical record or archaeological research, that a castle stood there before the 16th century. In the 16th century, Raudonė Castle belonged to King Sigismund II Augustus of Poland. A new castle was built on the ruins of the old one by a Germans, German knight, Hieronymus Krispin-Kirschenstein. Gediminas
Gediminas ( la, Gedeminne, ; – December 1341) was the king or Grand Duke of Lithuania from 1315 or 1316 until his death. He is credited with founding this political entity and expanding its territory which later spanned the area ranging from the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea. Also seen as one of the most significant individuals in early Lithuanian history, he was responsible for both building Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, and establishing a dynasty that later came to rule other European countries such as Poland, Hungary and Bohemia. ''Beilschmiedia elliptica'', known as the grey walnut is a rainforest laurel growing in eastern Australia. The range of natural distribution is from Forster, New South Wales (32° S) to Fraser Island (25° S) in south eastern Queensland.
