Rathmines Athletic F.C.
Rathmines Athletic Football Club were an Irish association football club based in Rathmines, Dublin. Together with YMCA, Frankfort and Reds United, Rathmines Athletic are one of only four clubs to have played just one season in the top level of the League of Ireland. The 1922–23 season saw Rathmines Athletic finish in 12th and last place and withdraw from the league without playing their last game. History League of Ireland The 1922–23 season saw the League of Ireland expand from eight to twelve teams. After Frankfort and YMCA dropped out, Rathmines Athletic became one of six new teams to join the league. The others were Shamrock Rovers, Shelbourne United, Pioneers, Athlone Town and Midland Athletic. Rathmines
Rathmines () is an affluent inner suburb on the Southside of Dublin in Ireland. It lies three kilometres south of the city centre. It begins at the southern side of the Grand Canal and stretches along the Rathmines Road as far as Rathgar to the south, Ranelagh to the east, and Harold's Cross to the west. It is situated in the city's D06 postal district. Rathmines is a commercial and social hub and is well known across Ireland as "flatland"—an area that has provided rented accommodation to newly arrived junior civil servants and third-level students from outside the city since the 1930s. The FAI Cup 1922–23 was the second edition of Ireland's premier cup competition, The Football Association of Ireland Challenge Cup or FAI Cup. The tournament began on 6 January 1923 and concluded on 17 March with the final held at Dalymount Park, Dublin. An official attendance of 14,000 people watched Belfast side Alton United of the Falls League defeat Shelbourne 1-0.
