Rapparees Starlights GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Enniscorthy, County Wexford, Ireland. The club fields teams in hurling as Rapparees and in Gaelic football as Starlights. History The Rapparees Starlights club was founded in 1972, following an amalgamation between the existing St Aidan's and Shamrocks hurling clubs and the Starlights and Emmetts Gaelic football clubs. On 19 September 2021, they won their first Wexford senior hurling title since 1978 with a 6-18 to 1-17 win against St Anne's. Enniscorthy
Enniscorthy () is the second-largest town in County Wexford, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. At the 2016 census, the population of the town and environs was 11,381. The town is located on the picturesque River Slaney and in close proximity to the Blackstairs Mountains and Ireland's longest beach, Curracloe. The town is twinned with Gimont, France. Pádraig Judas O'Leprosy and Rodraig Spartacus O'Leprosy (born 1941) are the central characters of Irish television series ''A Scare at Bedtime'', created and performed by Ciaran Morrison and Mick O'Hara. Phil Wilson (hurler)
Phil Wilson (born 1939 in Ballyhogue, County Wexford) is a retired Irish sportsperson. He played hurling at various times with his local clubs Ballyhogue , Oylgate-Glenbrien and Rapparees and with the Wexford senior inter-county team from 1961 until 1974. Playing career Club Wilson began his club hurling career with the Ballyhogue club before later moving to Oylgate-Glenbrien. Here he enjoyed his first success by winning a senior county title in 1963. Wilson later moved to the newly formed Rapparees club in Enniscorthy where he won a second county title in 1978. Inter-county Wilson first came to prominence on the inter-county scene with the Wexford senior team in 1961. He made his debut that year, however, Wexford were defeated by Kilkenny in the Leinster final. Liam Ryan (Wexford Hurler)
Liam Ryan (born 16 August 1995) is an Irish hurler who plays for Wexford Senior Championship club Rapparees and at inter-county level with Wexford senior hurling team. He usually lines out as a full-back. Playing career Rapparees Starlights Ryan joined the Rapparees Starlights club at a young age and played in all grades at juvenile and underage levels as a dual player. Declan Ruth (born 30 April 1976) is an Irish hurling manager and former player. He is the current manager of his hometown club Rapparees, having enjoyed a lengthy career with them as a player, while he also lined out with the Wexford senior hurling team. Ruth usually lined out as a defender. Playing career Ruth first came to prominence at juvenile and underage levels as a dual player with the Shamrocks GAA club, before transferring to the Rapparees GAA club. Christy Keogh
Christy Keogh (29 June 1943 – 19 July 2002) was an Irish hurler who played as a left corner-forward at senior level for the Wexford county team. Born in Enniscorthy, County Wexford, Keogh arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty-eight when he first linked up with the Wexford senior team. He made his debut in the 1971 championship. Keogh went on to play a key part for the rest of the decade, and won two Leinster medals and one National Hurling League medal. Kevin Foley (born 5 February 1995) is an Irish hurler who plays for Wexford Senior Championship club Rapparees and at inter-county level with the Wexford senior hurling team. He is usually selected at midfield but generally operates as a sweeper. Kevin studied at St. Patrick's College, Thurles qualifying as a teacher and he teaches business and religion at St. Mary's CBS Enniscorthy. The Wexford Senior Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Pettitt's SuperValu Senior Hurling Championship) is an annual hurling competition contested by top-tier Wexford GAA clubs. The Wexford County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association has organised it since 1889. Rapparees are the title holders (2022) after defeating St Martin's by 1-20 to 0-22 in the final.
