__NOTOC__ Ranken is a locality in the Northern Territory of Australia located in the territory's east adjoining the border with the state of Queensland about south-east of the territory capital of Darwin. The locality consists of the following land (from west to east, then north to south): #The West Ranken pastoral lease #The East Ranken and Soudan pastoral leases #The Adder, Avon Downs and Burramurra pastoral leases. and #The Rocklands and Austral Downs pastoral leases. As of 2020, it has an area of . The locality’s boundaries and name were gazetted on 4 April 2007. Its name is derived from the Ranken River which was named in the 1860s after John LC Ranken, the pastoralist who first established Lorne Creek, which is now known as the Avon Downs Station. Austral Downs
Austral Downs Station most commonly known as Austral Downs is a cattle station on the Barkly Tableland in the Northern Territory, Australia. It is situated approximately west of Camooweal and north west of Mount Isa. Description The Station occupies an area of and has a carrying capacity of approximately 42,000 head of Santa Gertrudis crossed with Angus crossed with Wagyu cattle. The station is run by the Australian Agricultural Company in combination with Avon Downs with an area of ; together the properties turn off an average of 25,000 head per year. The Division of Lingiari is an Australian electoral division in the Northern Territory that covers the entirety of the territory outside of the Division of Solomon, which covers Darwin and surrounding areas. The division also includes the Christmas and Cocos (Keeling) Islands. 2016 Australian Census
The 2016 Australian census was the 17th national population census held in Australia. The census was officially conducted with effect on Tuesday, 9 August 2016. The total population of the Commonwealth of Australia was counted as – an increase of 8.8 per cent or people over the . Norfolk Island joined the census for the first time in 2016, adding 1,748 to the population. The ABS annual report revealed that $24 million in additional expenses accrued due to the outage on the census website. Avon Downs is a pastoral station on the Barkly Tableland in the Northern Territory of Australia. It is located 260 kilometres northwest of Mount Isa. Early history Indigenous people have lived in the Barkly region for thousands of years. The first European to enter the area was William Landsborough in 1861. The Barkly Region, formerly Barkly Shire, is a local government area of the Northern Territory of Australia, administered by the Barkly Regional Council. The region's main town is Tennant Creek.
