Rangsit ( th, รังสิต, ) is a city and neighbourhood in Pathum Thani Province, Thailand. Rangsit is a metropolitan city that supports the expansion of Bangkok in the north. Rangsit has become a departure point for travel to provinces in north, northeast, and eastern Thailand. Rangsit is the home of Rangsit University The area is served by Rangsit station on the SRT's northern line and dark red line. History In the past, the area of Rangsit was a vast field, covering the area from the north of Bangkok, Pathum Thani to Saraburi and the east side of the Chao Phraya River was called "Thung Luang" (ทุ่งหลวง, refers to large field), with an area of approximately 2,000 km² (about 772 mi²). SRT Dark Red Line
The SRT Dark Red Line, or Thani Ratthaya Line ( th, รถไฟชานเมือง สายธานีรัถยา) is part of the SRT Red Line suburban railway system to serve the greater Bangkok Metropolitan Region running for 26 km between Bang Sue Grand Station and Rangsit. When fully completed, the line will run on a north–south axis through Bangkok, from Thammasat University's Rangsit campus in Pathum Thani Province to Maha Chai in Samut Sakhon Province for a full length of nearly 87 km. Construction started in 2013 and was originally due to be completed within 3 years by the end of 2016. However, the project experienced numerous delays. In May 2018, the SRT announced that the line was expected to open by October 2020. At the end of September 2019, civil construction was fully completed. Rangsit University ( Thai: มหาวิทยาลัยรังสิต) (RSU) is a private university in Pathum Thani, Thailand, focusing mainly on music, design, Information technology, and public health including independent professions. The Rangsit Canal ( th, คลองรังสิต; ), is a canal in the eastern part of the Chao Phraya valley, central Thailand. The name of the canal was given by King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) in honour of his son, Rangsit, Prince of Chai Nat. Tha Khlong ( th, ท่าโขลง, ) is a ''thesaban mueang'' (town municipality) in the Khlong Luang District of Pathum Thani Province in the Bangkok Metropolitan Region of Central Thailand. King Chulalongkorn
Chulalongkorn ( th, จุฬาลงกรณ์, 20 September 1853 – 23 October 1910) was the fifth monarch of Siam under the House of Chakri, titled Rama V. He was known to the Siamese of his time as ''Phra Phuttha Chao Luang'' (พระพุทธเจ้าหลวง, the Royal Buddha).
