Ramón Mendoza
Ramón Mendoza Fontela (18 April 1927 – 4 April 2001) was a Spanish lawyer and businessman who is mostly known for serving as the 13th president of Real Madrid from 24 May 1985 until 26 November 1995. He was born in Madrid, Kingdom of Spain. President of Real Madrid Mendoza became president of Real Madrid on 24 May 1985 when he was the only candidate at the elections for chairman of the club. He once again had no opponent in the next elections on 23 July 1988. Mendoza beat opposing candidate Alfonso Ussía by 20% of the votes (15,005 to 10,531) in January 1991 to secure his third term. He won a fourth term in 1994. In the elections which were dominated by accusations of fraud, corruption and mismanagement of the club, he nevertheless managed to beat Florentino Pérez by 700 votes. ''El Mundo'' (; ), before ''El Mundo del Siglo Veintiuno'', is the second largest printed daily newspaper in Spain. The paper is considered one of the country's newspapers of record along with '' El País and ABC.'' History and profile ''El Mundo'' was first published on 23 October 1989. The UEFA Europa League (abbreviated as UEL, or sometimes, UEFA EL), formerly the UEFA Cup, is an annual football club competition organised since 1971 by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) for eligible European football clubs. The Supercopa de España or the ''Spanish Super Cup'' is a super cup tournament in Spanish football. Founded in 1982 as a two-team competition, the current version has been contested since 2019–20 by four teams: the winners and runners-up of the Copa del Rey and La Liga. Santiago Bernabéu de Yeste (; 8 June 1895 – 2 June 1978) was a Spanish footballer who played for Real Madrid as a forward. He is widely regarded one of the most important figures in the history of Real Madrid, having served as its president for 35 years, from 11 September 1943 until his death in 1978. Under Bernabéu's leadership, Real Madrid became a dominant team both on national and international level, with its influence stretching beyond the football pitch.
