Raman Bedi
Raman Bedi (BDS (Bristol), MSc (Manchester), DDS and DSc (Bristol), FDSRCS (Edinburgh and England), FGDP, FPHM) is Professor of Transcultural Oral Health at King's College London and was the Chief Dental Officer of England from 2002 to 2005. He is Chairman of the Global Child Dental Fund, having established the Global Child Dental Health Taskforce, and continues to practise. Chief Dental Health Officer Professor Bedi served as the Chief Dental Officer of England from 1 October 2002 to 1 October 2005. Notable developments towards which Bedi contributed in this period include the passage of the Health and Social Care Act (dental clauses) 2004, Water Act (Fluoridation) 2004 and the Section 60 (2005) order reforming the General Dental Council. Barry Cockcroft (dentist)
Barry Michael Cockcroft CBE was the Chief Dental Officer (CDO) for England. Early life Cockcroft qualified from the Dental School at the University of Birmingham in 1973. Career Cockcroft was a dentist working in Rugby in general practice for 27 years during which time he represented dentists locally on the Warwickshire Local Dental Committee (LDC), and nationally, after he was elected to the General Dental Services Committee (GDSC) in 1990. He was appointed Deputy CDO in November 2002, and he became the acting CDO on 1 October 2005, before he took up the CDO post in July 2006. He was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2010 New Year Honours. In 2015, after leaving the post at the DoH, Cockcroft became a non-executive director at UK Corporate dental provider MyDentist (Formally Integrated Dental Holdings), one of the largest providers of NHS and private dentistry in the country. Margaret Seward
Margaret Seward MBE (22 January 1864 - 29 May 1929) became the earliest Chemist on staff at the Women's College (of which she was a founding Lecturer), from 1896 to 1915. She became the pioneer woman to obtain a first class in the honour school of Natural Science and later received an MBE for her work on nutrition during World War I. Early life and education Margaret Seward, daughter of James Seward, Master at the Liverpool Institute, was born on 22 January 1864 and educated at Blackburne House, Liverpool. She entered Somerville College, Oxford, in 1881. She was one of the first two female chemistry students, the other one being Mary Watson. In 1884, she was the first Oxford female student to be entered for the honour school of Mathematics. Dentaid is a British dental charity. The organisation is based in Totton, and has been active since the mid-1990s. Dentaid operates primarily in Uganda, South Asia and Central America.
