Rally Scotland
Rally Scotland was a forest rally held in central Scotland as a round of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge (IRC). The first event was held in 2009 and included stages that were last used over 20 years ago on the RAC Rally. History At a press conference in Glasgow on 15 October 2008 it was announced that Scotland would host the final round of the 2009 Intercontinental Rally Challenge and that Rally Scotland had secured a three-year contract with the IRC to host the event. Among those present at the launch was the First Minister of Scotland Alex Salmond, the ex-world champion Robert Reid and Andrew Cowan founder of Mitsubishi Ralliart. The inaugural event was held between 19 and 21 November 2009 during some of the wettest weather seen in the UK. The event was won by Guy Wilks in a Škoda Fabia S2000. Scottish Rally Championship
The Scottish Rally Championship is a rallying series run throughout Scotland over the course of a year, that comprises both gravel and closed surface rallies.http://www.scottishrallychampionship.co.uk/ SRC Homepage Points are awarded to the top placed drivers and the driver scoring the highest number of points over the season is declared Champion. 2010 Rally Scotland
The 2010 Rally Scotland was the 11th round of the 2010 Intercontinental Rally Challenge and the second running of the event. The event was held between 15 – 17 October 2010 in the forests of Stirling and Perth & Kinross. Four of the special stages were broadcast live on Eurosport. Introduction The forest rally was based in Perth, with a ceremonial start and the initial two stages being held at Scone Palace in the dark on the Friday evening. Saturday consisted of three routes (each run twice) covering . Sunday had an additional two routes () again run twice, before the ceremonial finish at Stirling Castle. Thierry Neuville made his debut on the rally which was described by his Kronos Racing team mate Kris Meeke as the best in the world. Andreas Mikkelsen
Andreas Mikkelsen (born 22 June 1989) is a Norwegian rally driver. He is currently competing in the World Rally Championship-2 for Toksport World Rally Team. He previously drove for the factory teams of Volkswagen, Citroën and Hyundai in the World Rally Championship, finishing third in the drivers' standings in 2014, 2015 and 2016. His current co-driver is Torstein Eriksen. He is a two-time Intercontinental Rally Challenge champion, having finished first in 2011 and 2012. In 2021, Mikkelsen became the drivers' champion in both the WRC-2 and the European Rally Championship. Career Mikkelsen has a broad background in sports. He has competed in slalom and giant slalom, and was a member of the national juniors' alpine skiing team. 2011 Intercontinental Rally Challenge Season
The 2011 Intercontinental Rally Challenge was the sixth season of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge. The season consisted of twelve rounds and started on 19 January with the Monte Carlo Rally. The season ended on 5 November, at the Cyprus Rally. The series introduced a new points system for the 2011 season, applying the FIA points system – 25–18–15–12–10–8–6–4–2–1 – which had been introduced to other championships within the last twelve months. Within the new system, the final two events in Scotland and Cyprus offered more points via a scoring coefficient. Scotland offered crews points on a 1.5 coefficient, meaning that the winner earned 37.5 points, second place 27 points, third place 22.5 points and so on. In Cyprus, double points were offered, meaning the winner received 50 points, second place 36, third place 30 and so forth. 2011 Rally Scotland
The 2011 Rally Scotland, officially the RAC MSA Rally of Scotland, was the tenth round of the 2011 Intercontinental Rally Challenge (IRC) season. The fifteen stage gravel rally took place over 7–9 October 2011 with three stages run after sunset. The rally offered points-and-a-half towards the respective IRC championships, meaning that the overall rally winner, as well as class winners, gained 37.5 points instead of the usual 25. Introduction The rally, which was run for the third time, was based in Perth, with a ceremonial start held at Stirling Castle on the Friday. Two runs of the Carron Valley stage completed the timetable for Friday. On Saturday six stages covering were run on gravel with the final seven stages, consisting of being completed on the Sunday. Malcolm Wilson (rally Driver)
Malcolm Irving Wilson, OBE (born 17 February 1956) is a British former rally driver and current owner of team and constructor M-Sport. He is the father of former World Rally Championship driver Matthew Wilson. He has been married to Elaine Wilson since 1982. Biography He has over 20 years experience of rallying at world championship level, much of it with Ford. He drove for three factory teams in the world championship, including MG, in whose Group B Metro 6R4, he shared driving duties with fellow Briton, Tony Pond. He spent several years as Ford's chief test driver, developing new rally cars, including the short lived RS1700T and RS200 models. M-Sport is an auto racing team and motorsport engineering company headquartered at Dovenby Hall near Cockermouth, Cumbria, England, United Kingdom. Formed in 1979 by the World Rally Championship driver Malcolm Wilson, and originally known as Malcolm Wilson Motorsport, the company has had varying success entering cars in several rally championships. Kris Meeke
Kris Meeke (born 2 July 1979) is a Northern Irish professional rally driver, best known for competing in the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC). He was the 2009 Intercontinental Rally Challenge champion. His co-driver is Seb Marshall, also British. He began his career as a Computer Aided Designer with M-Sport, at the headquarters of the Ford World Rally Team, before moving on to competing in the Peugeot Super 106 Cup in 2001. In 2011, Meeke debuted in the World Rally Championship driving a MINI for Prodrive. His first event was the Rally d'Italia Sardegna which was held between 5–8 May. Meeke scored his first WRC points and won the Power Stage at the 2011 Rally Catalunya. His maiden WRC win was at the 2015 Rally Argentina. Colin McRae
Colin Steele McRae, (5 August 1968 – 15 September 2007) was a Scottish rally driver. He was the 1991 and 1992 British Rally Champion, and in 1995 became the first British driver and the youngest person to win the World Rally Championship Drivers' title, a record which stood for 27 years until Kalle Rovanperä took the 2022 season title just a day after his 22nd birthday. McRae's performances with the Subaru World Rally Team enabled the team to win the World Rally Championship Manufacturers' title three times in succession in 1995, 1996 and 1997. After four years with the Ford Motor Co. team, where McRae won nine events, he moved to Citroën World Rally Team in 2003 where, despite not winning an event, he helped them win their first manufacturers' title. Trossachs
The Trossachs (; gd, Na Tròiseachan) generally refers to an area of wooded glens, braes, and lochs lying to the east of Ben Lomond in the Stirling council area of Scotland. The name is taken from that of a small woodland glen that lies at the centre of the area, but is now generally applied to the wider region. The wooded hills and lochs of the area may be considered to represent a microcosm of a typical highland landscape, and the woodlands are an important habitat for many species.
