''Rail Workers'' (Swedish: ''Rallare'') is a 1947 Swedish drama film directed by Arne Mattsson and starring Victor Sjöström, John Elfström and Gunnel Broström.McIlroy p.71 It was shot at the Råsunda Studios in Stockholm. The film's sets were designed by the art director Nils Svenwall. It is based on the 1946 novel ''Nordanvind'' by Olle Länsberg. Synopsis In 1902 a team of navvies work on the construction of a new railway line from Luleå on the Gulf of Bothnia in Northern Sweden to Narvik on the Norwegian Sea, then under Swedish sovereignty. Valfrid, from Southern Sweden, is ostracised by the other workers and their informal leader Stora Ballong. Arne Mattsson
Arne Mattsson (2 December 1919 – 28 June 1995) was a Swedish film director. Biography Born in Uppsala, the early films of Mattsson were mostly comedies. His biggest success was '' Hon dansade en sommar'' (1951, aka. ''One Summer of Happiness''), which earned him the Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival and a nomination for the Grand Prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 1952. It caused some controversy at the time because it contained nudity. His 1953 film of Peder Sjögren's second novel, ''Bread of Love'' (''Kärlekens bröd''), based on Sjögren's experiences as a volunteer in the Finnish Continuation War of 1941–44 angered the author, was banned in Finland and incurred the wrath of the Soviets at the Cannes Film Festival. Bengt Eklund
Bengt Gunnar Eklund (18 January 1925 – 19 January 1998) was a Swedish actor. He is well known as Nisse Granqvist in the 1964 TV series ''Vi på Saltkråkan''. Eklund worked for many years at the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm, but also made a large number of roles in movies and television, including Ingmar Bergman's Summer with Monika (1953) and ''Shame'' (1968), and Gustaf Molander's film '' Sir Arne's Treasure'' (1954; based on the novel by Selma Lagerlöf). Inga Linnéa Landgré (born ''Lundgren''; 6 August 1927) is a Swedish actress who has worked in theatre, television and films since the 1940s. Early life and career Inga Landgré was born in Stockholm on 6 August 1927. Her father was a struggling musician whose alcoholism strained her parents' marriage. Her mother was a waitress. The Norwegian Sea ( no, Norskehavet; is, Noregshaf; fo, Norskahavið) is a marginal sea, grouped with either the Atlantic Ocean or the Arctic Ocean, northwest of Norway between the North Sea and the Greenland Sea, adjoining the Barents Sea to the northeast. In the southwest, it is separated from the Atlantic Ocean by a submarine ridge running between Iceland and the Faroe Islands. To the north, the Jan Mayen Ridge separates it from the Greenland Sea.
