Ragnhild Hemsing
Ragnhild Hemsing (born 15 February 1988 in Valdres, Norway) is a Norwegian classical violinist and older sister of the classical violinist Eldbjørg Hemsing. Biography Hemsing began to play the violin when she was five and a half years old and was invited to enroll at the Barratt Due Institute of Music in Oslo at nine. She studied in Vienna with Boris Kuschnir. When she was 14, Hemsing made her debut with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, where she performed the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto, and with the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra. The following year she performed with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra. She has performed with the Danish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Ukrainian National Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Kazan State Orchestra in Russia, among others. Valdres
Valdres () is a traditional district in central, southern Norway, situated between the districts of Gudbrandsdalen and Hallingdal. The region of Valdres consists of the six municipalities of Nord-Aurdal, Sør-Aurdal, Øystre Slidre, Vestre Slidre, Vang and Etnedal. Valdres has about 18,000 inhabitants and is known for its excellent trout fishing and the local dialect. Its main road is E16 and Fylkesveg 51. Valdres is located approximately midway between Oslo and Bergen. The valley is protected to the west and north by the Jotunheimen mountains and the Valdresflye plateau and to the south by the Gol mountain ridge (''Golsfjellet''). Neeme Järvi
Neeme Järvi (; born 7 June 1937) is an Estonian American conductor. Early life Järvi was born in Tallinn. He initially studied music there, and later in Leningrad at the Leningrad Conservatory under Yevgeny Mravinsky, and Nikolai Rabinovich, among others. Early in his career, he held posts with the Estonian Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra, the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra and the Estonian National Opera in Tallinn. In 1971 he won first prize in the International Conductors Competition at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome. Järvi emigrated to the United States in 1980 with his family. He became an American citizen in 1985. Career In 1982, he became the principal conductor of the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, and held the post for 22 years, the longest-serving principal conductor in the orchestra's history. Marianne Thorsen
Marianne Thorsen (born 13 March 1972) is a Norwegian violinist. Biography and career Born in Trondheim, Thorsen was taught by Bjarne Fiskum before studying at The Purcell School for Young Musicians in Hertfordshire, and later tutored by György Pauk at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where she won the Roth Prize and the Academy's highest award for performance, the DipRAM. In 1991 she founded the Leopold String Trio, subsequently leading it for 15 years. It toured extensively, playing at Carnegie Hall, New York, the Musikverein in Vienna, and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. She won first prize at the Sion International Violin Competition in Switzerland in 2003, returning to her birth place three years later when she was recruited as a professor in the Norwegian University of Science and Technology's Music Department.
