Raghavan (Tamil: ராகவன்; Malayalam: രാഘവന്‍) is a South Indian name. It derives from the Sanskrit ''raghava'', meaning "derived from Raghu" or "descendant of Raghu" (an epithet of the Hindu god Rama, an incarnation of Vishnu), plus the Tamil-Malayalam third-person masculine singular suffix -n. Ramnad Raghavan
Ramnad V. Raghavan (19 June 1927 – 21 November 2009) was a player of the ''mridangam''. He was born in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India, to P. Vaidyanatha Ayyar of Kooniyur, Tirunelveli district, and Brhannayaki. His elder brother Ramnad Krishnan was a famous Carnatic vocalist. Beginning in 1970, he taught for many years at Wesleyan University in Connecticut, United States. He was also a key initiator for the Cleveland Thyagaraja Aradhana. Suren Raghavan ( ta, சுரேன் ராகவன், translit=Curēṉ Rākavaṉ; si, සුරේන් රාගවන්, translit=Surēn Rāgavan) is a Sri Lankan academic and former Governor of the Northern Province. He is of biethnic heritage, classed as Sri Lankan Tamil due to paternal descent. Raghavan joined the University of Kent's School of Political and International Relations in 2005 on a scholarship from the James Madison Trust and received a Master of Arts degree after producing a dissertation on federalism in Sri Lanka.
