Rafaï
Rafaï is a town and sub-prefecture on the Chinko River, in the Central African Republic Prefectures of the Central African Republic, prefecture of Mbomou. Its estimated population is about 14,000 people. History The Sultanate of Rafaï was the last of Ubangi-Shari to still have its sultan. The last sultan assumed the throne in 1909. On 12 March 2013 Rafaï was captured by Seleka rebels. On 3 March 2018 it was captured by Union for Peace in the Central African Republic, UPC rebels, but three days later it was recaptured by Anti-balaka. On 26 March 2021 it was reported that 14 rebels with automatic weapons were stationed near centre of Rafaï. On 30 October armed forces returned to Rafai after eight years of absence. Chinko River
The Chinko River (or Shinko River) is a river of the Central African Republic. It is a right tributary of the Mbomou River. Environment The upper reaches of the Chinko river define the border between the Haute-Kotto and Haut-Mbomou prefectures. For most of its length it flows in a SSW direction through Mbomou prefecture to its convergence with the Mbomou River. The Mbomou plateau has an elevation of , slightly inclined to the south, on the Asande rise between the Lake Chad depression to the north and the Congo Basin to the south. Union For Peace In The Central African Republic
Union for Peace in the Central African Republic (UPC, ) is a rebel group in the Central African Republic which controls southern parts of the country. History UPC was formed on 17 September 2014 by Ali Darassa from the ex-Séléka elements. Their initial headquarters was Bambari, however they were forced to retreat on 6 March 2017. On 10 January 2019, they launched a heavy attack on MINUSCA forces in Bambari vowing to recapture the city. They were repelled and in response Portuguese paratroopers raided their base in Bokolobo, seizing some weapons and destroying some checkpoints. On 17 December 2020, the UPC joined the Coalition of Patriots for Change. The Anti-balaka (''anti-machete'') is an alliance of militia groups based in the Central African Republic in the early 21st century said by ''the Guardian'' to be composed primarily of Christians, but also some Muslims.
