Radio Contact is the thirteenth album by Acoustic Alchemy Acoustic Alchemy is an English smooth jazz band formed in England in the early 1980s by Nick Webb and Simon James. 1981–1989: Early days Acoustic Alchemy was formed around the acoustic guitars of Simon James ( nylon string) and Nick Webb ( .... Comprising thirteen tracks, led off by single "No Messin'", the album features input from fellow guitarist Chuck Loeb on two tracks. The album is also the band's first to contain a full vocal track, "Little Laughter", performed by Jo Harrop. The track "Ya Tebya Lubliu" was so named after the Russian phrase for "I Love You". Acoustic Alchemy
Acoustic Alchemy is an English smooth jazz band formed in England in the early 1980s by Nick Webb and Simon James. 1981–1989: Early days Acoustic Alchemy was formed around the acoustic guitars of Simon James ( nylon string) and Nick Webb ( steel string), often backed up by double bass, percussion, and string quartet the Violettes. The band made two albums that were unprofitable. In the mid-1980s, James left, and in the 1990s he formed Kymaera, a similar, though more Latin oriented band. In 1985, Webb discovered Greg Carmichael, a guitarist with a London pub band called the Holloways (not affiliated with the indie band of the same name), who became James' successor. The new pairing found work as an in-flight band on Virgin Atlantic flights to and from the United States. Brighton
Brighton () is a seaside resort and one of the two main areas of the City of Brighton and Hove in the county of East Sussex, England. It is located south of London. Archaeological evidence of settlement in the area dates back to the Bronze Age, Roman and Anglo-Saxon periods. Smooth jazz is a genre of commercially-oriented crossover jazz and easy listening music that became dominant in the mid 1970s to the early 1990s. History Smooth jazz is a commercially oriented, crossover jazz which came to prominence in the 1980s, displacing the more venturesome jazz fusion from which it emerged. Higher Octave Music is a sub-label imprint of Narada Productions. Since 2013, it is part of Universal Music Group's Capitol Music Group, which is located in Los Angeles. History Higher Octave was acquired by Virgin Records on behalf of EMI in 1997. In 2004, Higher Octave's offices in Malibu, California, were closed and the label was folded into Narada Productions at a reduced level of staffing and activity while retaining its imprint as a sub-label of Narada. Two years later, Higher Octave moved to New York along with Narada and all of its related sub-labels to become part of EMI's merging all of its adult-focused music into The Blue Note Label Group. Greg Carmichael
Greg Carmichael (born 7 August 1953) is a British guitarist and co-founding member (along with Nick Webb) of contemporary jazz group Acoustic Alchemy. His primary instrument is the nylon-string acoustic guitar. He joined the band in 1985 as a partner with steel-string guitarist Nick Webb to work on the band's first album, ''Red Dust and Spanish Lace'', and has been at the forefront of the band ever since. Miles Gilderdale (born in Kingston, JamaicaStated on the Sounds of St. Lucia: Live DVD at time index 12:38) is a member of smooth jazz group Acoustic Alchemy and plays the steel-string acoustic guitar and electric guitar. In 1996, Gilderdale became a member of the contemporary jazz group Acoustic Alchemy and has collaborated on seven releases, including 2001's Grammy nominated AArt. American/English is Acoustic Alchemy's fourth album release on the Higher Octave Music label, and contains eleven tracks, making it also their shortest album with the label to date. The album was preceded by single "Say Yeah" for smooth jazz radio in the USA, an offering in a hip-hop style, remarked by some to be similar in style to British urban singer-songwriter Craig David. Experimental attributes include digital processing on Carmichael's guitar, which 'cut off' the ends of each note, and scat style vocals from Gilderdale toward the end of the track. Other highlights include "The Detroit Shuffle", reminiscent of 1989's "Catalina Kiss" from the "Blue Chip" album. The track fused a vibrant melody with the shuffle rhythm which helped seal the band's popularity in the genre towards the end of the 1980s. This is the first of Acoustic Alchemy's albums to include EMI's Copy Control technique, designed to prevent illegal reproduction and audio ripping of the disc. Such controls o ...
