Race Walking Record
''Race Walking Record'' (abbreviated ''RWR'') is a nonprofit magazine about the sport of race walking, and walking events, primarily aimed at a UK audience. The magazine was founded in London in 1941 by Alf McSweeney in order to keep athletes serving as soldiers in World War II informed about their sport back home. Alf McSweeney was president of the Race Walking Association at the time, and a printer by trade. Race Walking was a successful Olympic sport for Great Britain at that time. After producing the first issue, the magazine soon became popular. It continues to be produced each month after more than 800 issues in over seventy years. There have been eleven editors of the magazine since 1941, The current editor is Noel Carmody. Race Walking Record is registered with ISSN 1351-833X. Racewalking
Racewalking, or race walking, is a long-distance discipline within the sport of athletics. Although a foot race, it is different from running in that one foot must appear to be in contact with the ground at all times. Referee, Race judges carefully assess that this is maintained throughout the race. Typically held on either roads or running tracks, common distances range from up to 100 kilometres race walk, 100 kilometres (62.1 mi). There are two racewalking distances contested at the Summer Olympics: the 20 kilometres race walk (men and women) and 50 kilometres race walk (men only). Both are held as road events. The biennial World Athletics Championships also featured these two events, in addition to a 50 km walk for women, until 2019 World Athletics Championships, 2019. Peter Marlow (born 20 April 1941) is a British racewalker who competed at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, finishing 17th in the 20 km walk. He was born in London. He has been chief judge for racewalking at the Olympic Games in 2008, 2004 and 2000 and at other major international championships. He was elected president of the Race Walking Association in 2003. Parish Walk
The Parish Walk (sponsored by Manx Telecom since 2012, previously known as the Clerical Medical Parish Walk until 2009, then Scottish Widows Parish walk up to 2011) is a racewalking, walking race that takes place on the Isle of Man each year usually on the weekend nearest to the Northern Summer solstice. It is the biggest walking event on the island. The Parish Walk is so called because the route passes through all of the island's seventeen parishes, covering a total distance of . Originally, walkers had to touch the door of each of the seventeen parish churches, which are all still visited but nowadays electronic timing chips are worn. A time limit of 24 hours is given, and there are cut-off times for reaching each stage. Only a small proportion of walkers are expected to complete the full distance each year.
