Regular Local Ring
In commutative algebra, a regular local ring is a Noetherian local ring having the property that the minimal number of generators of its maximal ideal is equal to its Krull dimension. In symbols, let ''A'' be a Noetherian local ring with maximal ideal m, and suppose ''a''1, ..., ''a''''n'' is a minimal set of generators of m. Then by Krull's principal ideal theorem ''n'' ≥ dim ''A'', and ''A'' is defined to be regular if ''n'' = dim ''A''. The appellation ''regular'' is justified by the geometric meaning. A point ''x'' on an algebraic variety ''X'' is nonsingular if and only if the local ring \mathcal_ of germs at ''x'' is regular. (See also: regular scheme.) Regular local rings are ''not'' related to von Neumann regular rings. For Noetherian local rings, there is the following chain of inclusions: Characterizations There are a number of useful definitions of a regular local ring, one of which is mentioned above. In particular, if A is a Noetherian local ring with maximal idea ...

Richard Lloyd Racing
Richard Lloyd Racing (RLR), originally named GTi Engineering, was a British auto racing team created in 1977 by driver Richard Lloyd. Originally named for the Volkswagen Golf GTIs that Lloyd raced in the British Saloon Car Championship (BSCC), they went on to become a successful Porsche privateer in the World Sportscar Championship (WSC). Richard Lloyd Racing eventually folded at the end of the 1990 season due to the increased cost of the World Championship. The team was also known for their extensively modified Porsche 956s and 962Cs, developed to overcome some problems in the original Porsche design and construction. The cars, all named ''GTi'' after the team, were able to outperform their standard counterparts. The GTis made some of the first uses of exotic materials and innovative design elements that would later be adopted by Porsche and other manufacturers. Even after the racing team had moved on to running Porsches, GTi Engineering remained a division of Richard Ll ...

RIG-I-like Receptor
RIG-like receptors (retinoic acid-inducible gene-I-like receptors, RLRs) are a type of intracellular pattern recognition receptor involved in the recognition of viruses by the innate immune system. RIG-I (retinoic-acid inducible gene or DDX58) is the best characterized receptor within the RIG-I like receptor (RLR) family. Together with MDA5 (melanoma differentiation-associated 5) and LGP2 (laboratory of genetics and physiology 2), this family of cytoplasmic pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) are sentinels for intracellular viral RNA that is a product of viral infection. The RLR receptors provide frontline defence against viral infections in most tissues. RLR ligands The RIG-I receptor prefers to bind short (2000 bp), such as the replicative form of picornavirus RNA that is found in picornavirus-infected cells. LGP2 binds to blunt-ended double-stranded RNA of variable length, and also to RNA-bound MDA5 to regulate filament formation. The latter is linked to LGP2's recognition of p ...

Ruislip Lido Railway
The Ruislip Lido Railway is a gauge miniature railway around Ruislip Lido in Ruislip, north-west of central London. Running from the main station at Woody Bay by the lido's beach, on a track around the reservoir, the railway passes through Ruislip Woods to Willow Lawn station and tea room near the lido's car parks. It is the longest gauge railway in the United Kingdom. Originally built by the Grand Union Canal Company over a much shorter route, the line has been extended in recent years and now covers over two thirds of the perimeter of the reservoir. It has been operated since 1979 by the Ruislip Lido Railway Society (RLRS). Route description At one end of the railway, Willow Lawn station was previously known (until summer 2013) as Ruislip Lido (Water's Edge) station. It features three running lines, but only one platform face. There is a turntable. There is a level crossing between Willow Lawn and the next station, Haste Hill. Formerly a terminus, Haste Hill is now a thro ...

Rural Land Register
The Rural Land Register (RLR) is a database of maps showing the ownership of all agricultural land in the England, along with woodland and marginal land on which grants or subsidies are to be claimed. The database is used by the Rural Payments Agency to pay subsidies and grants under schemes including the Environmental Stewardship Scheme, Farm Woodland Scheme and the Single Payment Scheme. In January 2003 the Government estimated that the costs of the scheme would be 5.5 million pounds. The system has suffered from delays and problems in registering land.
