Bucharest
Bucharest ( , ; ro, București ) is the capital and largest city of Romania, as well as its cultural, industrial, and financial centre. Stadionul Naţional de Rugby Arcul de Triumf (''Triumphal Arch National Rugby Stadium'') is a multi-purpose stadium in Bucharest, Romania. Being constructed on the site of the former stadium, it will host major rugby matches including home matches of the Romania national rugby union team. Alexandru Marin (born 28 November 1957) in Bucharest, is a former Romanian rugby union football player and currently coach. He played as fullback and as wing. Career In his career, Marin played for R.C. Grivița. International career Marin was first capped in the match against Czechoslovakia, in Bucharest, on 9 April 1978. The Liga Națională de Rugby () is a semi-professional rugby union club competition that is played in Romania. History The first Romanian competition took place in 1914 between two Bucharest team's in Tennis Club Român and Sporting Club with Tennis Club Român taking out the first title winning both of the matches by eight and three points respectively. The competition expanded and grew in the 1920s and 1930s (with a peak in the 1970s and 1980s), after Stadiul Român and seventeen more (other) teams were founded in Bucharest-only ever since. The championship took place on an annual basis, with some gap years caused by the two World Wars mostly. The first team set up outside Bucharest (to play the top tier competition) was IAR Brașov in 1939, a team owned and run by the famous Braşov aircraft factory I.A.R. Rugby union, commonly known simply as rugby, is a close-contact team sport that originated at Rugby School in the first half of the 19th century. One of the two codes of rugby football, it is based on running with the ball in hand. The Cupa României ( en, Romanian Cup) is a football cup competition for Romanian teams which has been held annually since 1933–34, except during World War II. It is the country's main cup competition, being open to all clubs affiliated with the Romanian Football Federation (FRF) and the county football associations regardless of the league they belong to. Currently, the winner of the competition is granted a place in the UEFA Europa League qualifiers and plays the Supercupa României. Most finals have been held at the Stadionul Național (formerly known as "23 August"), and occasionally at other stadiums in Bucharest. During the construction of the new Stadionul Național, the final was staged each year in a different major city of the country.
