Welkom
Welkom () is the second-largest city in the Free State province of South Africa, located about northeast of Bloemfontein which is the provincial capital. Welkom is also known as Circle City, City Within A Garden, Mvela and Matjhabeng. The city's Sesotho name, ''Matjhabeng'' means 'where nations meet', derived from the migrant labour system, where people of various countries such as Lesotho, Malawi and Mozambique etc. met to work in the mines of the gold fields. A settlement was laid out on a farm named "Welkom" (which is the Afrikaans and Dutch word for "welcome") after gold was discovered in the region, and it was officially proclaimed a town in 1948. Bultfontein
Bultfontein is a town in the Free State province of South Africa with a total population of about 23,400 people. It is situated in the Tswelopele Local Municipality, about north of Bloemfontein. The town site was laid out in 1873; it had been delayed because of a location dispute which also led to the establishment of Hoopstad to the north-west. The township of Phahameng was established on the outskirts of Bultfontein in the 1970s. According to the 2011 census, Bultfontein proper has a population of 2,176, while Phahameng has a population of 21,189, giving the urban area a total population of 23,365. Of this population 93% described themselves as Black African, 5.5% as White, and 0.5% as Coloured. 57% spoke Sotho as their home language, 23% spoke Xhosa, 9.5% spoke Tswana and 6% spoke Afrikaans as first language. The R30 is a provincial route in South Africa that connects Bloemfontein with Rustenburg via Brandfort, Welkom, Bothaville, Klerksdorp and Ventersdorp. The southern part of the route is tolled, as the R30 forms the first section of the ZR Mahabane Toll Route, with the Brandfort Toll Plaza found 10 kilometres north of its Southern junction with the N1 National Route. The tolled portion ends at the junction with the R730. The R73 is a provincial route in Free State, South Africa that connects Welkom with Winburg. Route The R73 begins in Welkom (west of the town centre), at a junction with the R30 Road. West of this intersection, it is the R710 Road towards Bultfontein. The R73 begins by going eastwards into Welkom Central as Stateway, co-signed with the M4 Road of Welkom, up to the 3rd roundabout, where it meets the M1 Road of Welkom (Koppie Alleen Road). The R73 joins the M1 northwards up to the next roundabout, where the R73 becomes its own road eastwards as Jan Hofmeyr Street. After the next roundabout with Power Road, the R73 becomes a dual carriageway and meets the R730 Road (ZR Mahabane Highway) at the 2nd junction afterwards, south of the Thabong suburb of Welkom. Vet River
The Vet River ( af, Vetrivier) is a westward-flowing tributary of the Vaal River in central South Africa. Its sources are between Marquard and Clocolan and the Vet River flows roughly northwestwards to meet the Vaal at the Bloemhof Dam near Hoopstad. Erfenis Dam was built on this river in order to provide water for the town of Theunissen. Route The R700's northern terminus is a junction with the R59 route at Hoopstad (just south of the R59's Vet River Bridge; which provides access to the town centre). It begins by running south-south-east for 53 kilometres to the town of Bultfontein, where it meets the south-western terminus of the R710 route and continues southwards via a right turn. It bypasses Bultfontein to the west and reaches a junction with the R708 route. The R708 joins the R700 for 1.8 km southwards before the R708 becomes its own road eastwards while the R700 remains facing southwards.
