R. R. Bowker LLC (trading as Bowker) is an American limited liability company domiciled under Delaware Limited Liability Company Law and based in Chatham, New Jersey. Among other things, Bowker provides bibliographic information on published works to the book trade, including publishers, booksellers, libraries, and individuals; its roots in the industry trace back to 1868. Bowker is the exclusive U.S. agent for issuing International Standard Book Numbers ( ISBNs). Bowker is the publisher of ''Books in Print'' and other compilations of information about books and periodical titles. It provides supply chain services and analytical tools to the book publishing industry. Bowker is headquartered in Chatham, New Jersey, with additional operational offices in England and Australia. Information Today, Inc., is an American publishing company. It publishes Internet and technology magazines, newsletters, books, directories and online products. Information Today was previously known as Learned Information, Inc. Learned Information incorporated on June 1, 1980; the name change was effective June 1, 1995. Learned Information Ltd, an affiliate based in Oxford, England, remained Information Today's European distributor after the name change. Likewise, Information Today remained Learned Information Ltd's distributor. As of January 2000, Information Today published ''Information Today'', a newsletter (published at least since 1987), and other products geared toward "information users and professionals". Robert Freeman Asleson
Robert Freeman Asleson (October 11, 1935 – July 22, 2010) was an American publisher who was a major contributor to the publishing, library and information industries. He led a number of key information companies as they evolved from print, to microfilm, to mainframe, CD-ROM and then web based databases. He brought professional management to entrepreneurial library companies, without which they might not have succeeded. Some of these organizations are now among the titans of the library industry. Asleson was born in New Ulm, Minnesota, to Raymond Asleson and Florence Elvina Anderson. Three of his four grandparents were Norwegian emigrants. He attended the University of Minnesota, receiving a bachelor's degree followed by a master's degree in industrial engineering in 1958.
