R. Niels Marquardt
R. Niels Marquardt (born 1953 in San Diego, California) is a retired American diplomat and past CEO of the American Chamber of Commerce in Australia. Education R. Niels Marquardt graduated from Lewis and Clark College in 1975 with a B.A., the American Graduate School of International Management in 1980, and from the National War College in 1994. Prior to joining the Foreign Service, Marquardt served from 1977 to 1979 as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Rwanda. Career Marquardt joined the U.S. foreign service in 1980. He served as the U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Madagascar and the Union of the Comoros from 2007 to 2010. He was nominated by President George W. Bush on March 26, 2007. On May 25, 2007, the Senate confirmed his nomination. He was sworn in on August 17, 2007.
