R16 Korea is an annual international b-boy tournament and urban arts cultural festival sponsored primarily by the Korea Tourism Organization and the South Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. The main event features sixteen B-Boy crews representing fifteen countries competing in a two-day tournament for world championship titles in two categories: best crew performance and best crew battle. The B-Boy tournament is notable for employing its own unique judging system that uses criteria and scoring to decide a winner, and to provide a transparent and fair competition. The festival features graffiti artists, street wear designers, musical performers and dancers who specialize in hip-hop, popping, locking and other urban arts subcultures from South Korea and other countries. B-boy
Breakdancing, also called breaking or b-boying/b-girling, is an athletic style of street dance originating from the African American and Puerto Rican communities in the United States. While diverse in the amount of variation available in the dance, breakdancing mainly consists of four kinds of movement: toprock, downrock, power moves and freezes. Breakdancing is typically set to songs containing drum breaks, especially in hip-hop, funk, soul music and breakbeat music, although modern trends allow for much wider varieties of music along certain ranges of tempo and beat patterns. The modern dance elements of breakdancing originated among the poor youth of New York during the early 1970s, where it was introduced as breaking. Jay Park ( Korean name: Park Jae-beom (Hangul: 박재범; Hanja: 朴載範); born April 25, 1987) is an American rapper, singer-songwriter, record producer, dancer and entrepreneur of based in South Korea. He is a member of the Seattle-based b-boy crew Art of Movement (AOM), and founder and former CEO of the independent hip hop record labels AOMG and H1ghr Music, as well as the founder of the record label More Vision. Massive Monkees is a 28 member b-boy crew from Seattle, Washington that won the 2004 World B-Boy Championships in London and appeared on season four of MTV's ''America's Best Dance Crew''. In 2012 they won the international b-boy competition R-16 Korea and thus became the first American crew to win in the history of the competition. History Founded in the mid-'90s, the Massive Monkees have 25 active members including former Binary Star rapper One Be Lo, who performs as the MC at their shows. Omar "RoxRite" Delgado Macias (born April 6, 1982) is a competitive b-boy from Windsor, California. As of March 2018, he has won 100 titles including the UK B-Boy Championships (2005), R16 (2009), Red Bull BC One (2011) and Freestyle Session (2009, 2013, and 2014).He won Freestyle Session 2013 with his crew Squadron. RoxRite was born in Guadalajara, Mexico and raised in Windsor, California. His family moved to the United States when he was six years old, but he wasn't introduced to breaking until he was 12. Although he was born in Mexico, RoxRite represents the U.S. in competition because the U.S. is where he was raised and where he learned breaking. Morning of Owl is a b-boy crew founded in 2002 from Suwon, South Korea. They have won multiple b-boy competitions in Korea and abroad.
