The Queensferry Stakes is a Listed flat horse race in Great Britain open to horses aged three years or older. It is run at Chester over a distance of 6 furlongs and 17 yards (1,223 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in late July or early August. The race was first run in 1998. Conditions Races
Conditions races are horse races in which the weights carried by the runners are laid down by the conditions attached to the race. Weights are allocated according to the sex of the runners, with female runners carrying less weight than males; the age of the runners, with younger horses receiving weight from older runners to allow for relative maturity, referred to as weight for age; and the quality of the runners, with horses that have won certain values of races giving weight to less successful entrants. Conditions races are distinct from handicap races, for which the weights carried are laid down by an official handicapper to equalise the difference in ability between the runners. In Great Britain, for example, the British Horseracing Authority's rules define a conditions race as being one "which is none of the following; a Handicap Race or a Novice Race, a race restricted to Maiden Horses, or a race governed by Selling or Claiming provisions." Mark Johnston (racehorse Trainer)
Mark Johnston (born 10 October 1959) is a Scottish racehorse trainer based in Middleham, North Yorkshire, England. Born in Glasgow, he studied at the University of Glasgow and is a qualified vet. He started training at a stable near Louth, Lincolnshire in 1987, and his first winner was Hinari Video at Carlisle He has been training in Middleham since 1988 when he purchased Kingsley House (often falsely attributed to be the former home of Charles Kingsley, author of '' The Water Babies''). In 2004 he won the 1,000 Guineas with Attraction. Other successful horses he has trained are Mister Baileys, winner of the 2,000 Guineas, Shamardal, 2004 European Champion Two-Year-Old, and Double Trigger, winner of the Ascot Gold Cup. Ebro River (foaled 25 January 2019) is an Irish-bred, British-trained Thoroughbred racehorse. He was one of the most successful juveniles in Europe in the summer of 2021 when he won three races including the National Stakes in England and the Phoenix Stakes in Ireland. Background Ebro River is a chestnut horse with a white star bred in Ireland by the County Westmeath-based Tally-Ho Stud, a breeding operation run by the O'Callaghan family. In October 2020 the yearling was consigned to the Tattersalls sale and was bought for 75,000 guineas by the bloodstock agent Charles Gordon Watson on behalf of Joaan bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani's Al Shaqab Racing. Thomas Geoffrey Dascombe (born 30 April 1973) is an English Group 1 winning racehorse trainer currently operating from Uplands Stables, Lambourn, United Kingdom. He trained Classic Blade and Firth of Fifth to win the G2 July Stakes and G2 Superlative Stakes respectively, on consecutive days in 2008 at Newmarket. His more recent achievements include training two Royal Ascot winners in Rhythm of Light and Brown Panther on consecutive days of the Royal meeting in 2011 and at the same meeting in 2012 training Ceiling Kitty to win the Queen Mary Stakes. Richard Kingscote is a British jockey who competes in flat racing. He won the 2022 Epsom Derby on Desert Crown. Background Kingscote grew up in Weston-super-Mare in a family with no racing connections and started riding as a child. Andrew Matthews Balding (born 29 December 1972) is a British racehorse trainer based at Park House Stables, Kingsclere, near Newbury, Berkshire. Balding attended Caldicott School, a boys' preparatory school, and Radley College, a public school. He became a licensed trainer in January 2003, when he succeeded his father Ian Balding.
