Quebec Wine
Quebec wine is wine made in the province of Quebec. The grape varieties grown in Quebec, both white and red, all have common qualities needed by the harshness of the winter season, including resistance to winter temperatures, resistance to spring freezes and being ripeness (wine), early ripening. Some 40 varieties are grown in Quebec, with the most commonly planted being Marechal Foch, Maréchal Foch, Frontenac (grape), Frontenac, De Chaunac, Vidal blanc, Vidal and Seyval blanc. Quebec wine makers have developed a large array of products including dry (wine), dry, semi-dry and fortified (wine), fortified wines (including Vin doux naturel styles). Additionally the region produces ice wines, late harvest wines, sparkling wines and fruit wines. Quebec counts six regions where vines are cultivated. Chambourcin
Chambourcin is a species of grapevines belonging to the ''Vitis'' genus in the flowering plant family Vitaceae. It is a French-American interspecific hybrid grape variety used for making wine. Its parentage is uncertain. The hybrid was produced by Joannes Seyve who often used Seibel hybrids produced in the 1860s. The grape has only been available since 1963; it has a good resistance to fungal disease, and is one of the parents of the new disease resistant variety, Regent, which is increasing in popularity among German grape growers. Chambourcin is considered a very productive grape with crop yields reported ranging from 11.1 tons per hectare to 17.3 tons per hectare in a study performed by Ohio State University. Severny (grape)
Severny is the name of a Russian red-grape variety. Severny results from the interspecific crossing between Seianetze Malengra and ''Vitis amurensis''. The hybrid has been obtained in the Institute for wineyard researches in Rostov-on-Don in Russia. The variety has been imported to Finger Lakes AVA, just south of Lake Ontario, in the United States. Because of the genes present in ''Vitis amurensis'', the grape is very resistant to frost. Further hybridizations have involved the Severny variety, as with the Saperavi Severnyi (with Georgian variety Saperavi) or Cabernet Severny obtentions. Cabernet Franc
Cabernet Franc is one of the major black grape varieties worldwide. It is principally grown for blending with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in the Bordeaux style, but can also be vinified alone, as in the Loire's Chinon. In addition to being used in blends and produced as a varietal in Canada and the United States, it is sometimes made into ice wine in those regions. Baco noir (pronounced BA-koh NWAHR) is a hybrid red wine grape variety produced by Francois Baco from a cross of ''Vitis vinifera var.'' Folle blanche, a French wine grape, and an unknown variety of ''Vitis riparia'' indigenous to North America. Regions In 1951 the variety was brought to the cooler viticulture regions of North America, such as British Columbia, Ontario, Nova Scotia, New York, Michigan, Mississippi, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Oregon.
