Qatar Steel (formerly QASCO) was formed in 1974 as the first integrated steel plant in the Eastern Arabia region. Commercial production commenced in 1978 with the company becoming wholly owned by Industries Qatar in 2003. Mesaieed ( ar, مسيعيد, also transliterated as ''Musay'id'' and ''Umm Sa'id'') is an industrial city in Al Wakrah Municipality in the State of Qatar, approximately south of Doha.
