Qatar Olympic Committee ( ar, اللجنة الأولمبية القطرية, IOC code: QAT) is the National Olympic Committee representing Qatar. History The QOC was formed in 1979 and was granted full recognition by the International Olympic Committee in 1980. QOC's main goal is to bring world-class sports events to Qatar, ensure sporting success and encourage people to participate in sports at all levels. The QOC developed many programs, events and initiatives, such as National Sports Day, the Qatar Olympic Academy, the Qatar Women’s Sports Committee, the Schools Olympic Program, and the Qatar Athlete Development Pathway. Their vision is to become a leading nation in bringing the world together through the development of sport. Doha
Doha ( ar, الدوحة, ad-Dawḥa or ''ad-Dōḥa'') is the capital city and main financial hub of Qatar. Located on the Persian Gulf coast in the east of the country, north of Al Wakrah and south of Al Khor, it is home to most of the country's population. Noor Hussain Al-Malki
Noor Hussain Al-Malki (born 21 October 1994) is an Arab sprinter, and a member of the Qatari Olympic Team at the 2012 Summer Olympics. By competing in London she became one of the first female athletes to represent the country at the Olympic Games. Malki was born the youngest of six brothers and five sisters. She began training as an athlete in 2008, under the guidance of Tunisian coach and former international middle-distance runner Naima Ben Amara. Although at first she lacked consistency in her training, she soon built a strong relationship with her coach, and became the fastest female Qatari athlete, winning the Qatar Association of Athletics Federation’s (QAAF) ‘Best Female Athlete’ in 2010-11. A National Olympic Committee (NOC) is a national constituent of the worldwide Olympic movement. Subject to the controls of the International Olympic Committee, NOCs are responsible for organizing their people's participation in the Olympic Games. Asma Al Thani
Sheikha Asma Al Thani () is a Qatari mountaineer who is the first Qatari woman to summit Mount Everest, Mount Lhotse, and Manaslu, K2 as well as the first Qatari female to climb Ama Dablam. She is also the first Qatari person to ski to the North Pole. On her ascent of Manaslu, she became the first Arab person to summit an eight-thousander without oxygen. She is Director of Marketing and Communications for the Qatar Olympic Committee. She is also a member of the ruling family of Qatar. Qatar At The Olympics
Qatar has competed in 10 Summer Olympic Games. They have never competed in the Winter Olympic Games. Their first ever Olympic gold medal was won by Fares El-Bakh in weightlifting at the 2020 Summer Olympics, followed by a gold medal for Mutaz Essa Barshim in men's high jump. They have also won one silver and four bronze medals. Following the 2008 Summer Olympics, Qatar was, along with Saudi Arabia and Brunei, one of only three countries never to have sent a female athlete to the Olympic Games. 2012 Summer Olympics Opening Ceremony
The opening ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympics took place on the evening of Friday 27 July 2012 in the Olympic Stadium, London, during which the Games were formally opened by Queen Elizabeth II. As mandated by the Olympic Charter, the proceedings combined the ceremonial opening of this international sporting event (including welcoming speeches, hoisting of the flags and the parade of athletes) with an artistic spectacle to showcase the host nation's culture. Bahiya Al-Hamad
Bahiya Mansour Al-Hamad (born 21 June 1992) is a rifle shooter from Qatar. She was named the Best Female Athlete of the Year 2011-2012 by the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC). She qualified for the 2010 Youth Olympic Games, where she served as the flag bearer at the Opening Ceremony. Two of her cousins, Amna (air rifle) and Wasmiya Al Abdullah (shotgun), are also members of the national team. Aya Majdi
Aya Mohamed Majdi (born 1 August 1994) is an Egyptian born Qatari table tennis player. Trained by the Chinese coach Su Li, Aya won three gold medals — singles, doubles and team — at the 2010 GCC Championship in Doha. Nada Mohamed Wafa Arakji ( ar, ندى عرقجي) (born 30 October 1994) is a Qatari swimmer. She competed in the 50 m freestyle at the 2012 Summer Olympics, becoming the first woman to represent Qatar at the Olympics.
