Quorrobolong, New South Wales
Quorrobolong is a small locality in the Hunter Region of New South Wales, Australia. It is located southeast of the town of and is adjacent to Watagans National Park. Quorrobolong has a variety of accommodation to cater for tourists visiting the Hunter Valley, including farmstays and health retreats. It is also the home of the not‐for‐profit 'Heal For Life' organisation which provides healing programs for survivors of childhood trauma and abuse. Indigenous history and name The name Quorrobolong is based on the aboriginal word which means "a low line of hills". Initially, the name was spelled "Quarrybylong" and was officially changed to Quorrobolong in 1975. The Central Lowlands of the Hunter Valley is the country of the Wonnarua people. A recent survey indicates that the Quorrobolong area contains a ceremonial ground and two burial sites. The Hunter Region, also commonly known as the Hunter Valley, is a region of New South Wales, Australia, extending from approximately to north of Sydney. It contains the Hunter River and its tributaries with highland areas to the north and south. Austar Coal Mine
The Austar coal mine is a coal mine located near Paxton, New South Wales. The mine has coal reserves amounting to 221 million tonnes of coking coal, one of the largest coal reserves in Asia and the world. In 2012, the mine had an annual production capacity of 3 million tonnes of coal and employed 409 people. This colliery incorporates the former Pelton, Cessnock No.1 (Kalingo) and Ellalong collieries near Paxton, all of which had closed during the coal slumps, and was opened (or re-opened) in July 1979. The adjoining old Bellbird South colliery was later added, and the entire complex was renamed Southland colliery. In October 2004 there was an underground fire and the mine was sealed. The company, Gympie Gold, was forced into receivership and the mine was placed in a 'care and maintenance' position. The Wonnarua people, otherwise written Wanarruwa, are a group of Aboriginal Australian people united by strong ties of kinship, and who survived in family groups or clans scattered along the inland area of what is now known as the Hunter Region, Upper Hunter Valley, New South Wales, Australia. Their creation spirit is ''Baiami'', also known as ''Koin'', the creator of all things and the ''Keeper of the Valley''.
