Quirindi Shire was a local government area in the New England region of New South Wales, Australia. Quirindi Shire was proclaimed on 1 January 1980, created from the amalgamation of Tamarang Shire and the Municipality of Quirindi as a result of the Local Government Areas Amalgamation Act 1980. Schedule 1. The shire offices were based in Quirindi. Other localities in the Shire included Blackville, Caroona, Colly Blue, Premer and Spring Ridge. North West Slopes
The North West Slopes region of New South Wales, Australia, refers generally to the area west of the Northern Tablelands, to the north of the Central West region and to the east of the Far West region. Despite its name, the region is in north-central New South Wales, corresponding generally to the Australian Bureau of Meteorology's forecast area of ''North West Slopes and Plains''. The administrative areas of the region include the city of Tamworth, Gunnedah, Moree, Narrabri and Inverell. The region is higher, hillier and wetter on its eastern edge than on its western edge. The North West Slopes are situated on various tributaries to the Darling River, such as the Barwon, Gwydir, and Namoi Rivers, which rise in the Great Dividing Range country to its east. Gunnedah Shire
Gunnedah Shire is a local government area in the North West Slopes region of New South Wales, Australia. The Shire is located adjacent to the Liverpool Plains in the Namoi River valley and is traversed by the Oxley Highway and the Kamilaroi Highway. The Shire was established in 1980 from the amalgamation of the Municipality of Gunnedah and Liverpool Plains Shire. Parry Shire
Parry Shire is a former local government area in New South Wales, Australia. The former Parry Shire was located in the Liverpool Plains region and covered a broad area of countryside, south and east of the city of Tamworth. It did not include any major town, but had several villages. Parry Shire was formed in 1980 by the amalgamation of the former Peel Shire and Cockburn Shire. Part of the Peel Shire area was re-allocated to the growing City of Tamworth area at that time. Parry Shire was named because it occupied most of the land of Parry County, one of the cadastral ( survey and land registration ) divisions of New South Wales. Parry County was named after Sir William Edward Parry, a director of the Australian Agricultural Company, an early major landholder in the area. Quirindi
Quirindi ( or ) is a small town on the North West Slopes region of New South Wales, Australia, in Liverpool Plains Shire. At the , Quirindi had a population of 3,444. It is the nearest link to Gunnedah to the west and Tamworth to the north. The local economy is based on agriculture, with broadacre farming dominant on the black soil plains to the west and livestock grazing in the hilly eastern part of the district. The town is on the Kamilaroi Highway northwest of its junction with the New England Highway at Willow Tree. History The indigenous Gamilaroi people lived in the area for many thousands of years.
