Quinlan, Texas
Quinlan is a rural city in the southern part of Hunt County, Texas, United States, within the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of 1,394. It is west of Lake Tawakoni. History The city of Quinlan began about 1892 as a stop on the Texas Midland Railroad, which was owned by famed bond investor Hetty Green, called by the contemporary press "The Witch of Wall Street". The railroad was operated by her son, Edward H.R. Green. Texas Midland became a subsidiary of the Houston & Texas Central Railroad, and the city which built up around a depot constructed here between the towns of Roberts and Greenville was named Quinlan in honor of George A. Quinlan, the general manager of the Houston & Texas Central railroad. The post office opened in Quinlan in 1894, and by 1896, the city was incorporated. Harry Ford served as first mayor. State Highway 34 (SH 34) is a route that runs from Honey Grove, Texas, Honey Grove to Italy, Texas, Italy just east of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. History SH 34 was originally proposed on November 19, 1917, starting in Ft. Worth travelling southeast to Ennis, Texas, Ennis. On October 15, 1923, SH 34 was extended to Kaufman. On December 17, 1923, SH 34 was extended to Greenville, Texas, Greenville, replacing Texas State Highway 38, SH 38. On May 25, 1925, the eastern end had been extended north to Honey Grove. Emory is a city in Rains County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,239 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Rains County, Texas, Rains County. Previously known as Springville, the city and county are named after Emory Rains who was a legislator from the area. Rains was the author of the Homestead Law of Texas which was later used as a model for the protection of homesteads throughout the United States. Texas State Highway 276
State Highway 276 (SH 276) is a Texas state highway that runs from Rockwall east to Emory. This route was designated on July 25, 1960, between Rockwall and Quinlan, replacing FM 1143 and part of FM 35. SH 276 was extended to its current terminus on October 25, 1990, replacing most of FM 35. History SH 276 was designated on September 7, 1938, as a route between US 285 southeast of Arno and Mentone. On April 16, 1946, another section from SH 115 to what was then SH 82 (now SH 18) in Kermit was added. On August 12, 1946, that section was transferred to SH 302. On December 1, 1953, SH 276 was transferred to SH 302.
