Quincy Gems
The Quincy Gems are a collegiate summer league baseball team located in Quincy, Illinois. The Gems were originally a part of the Central Illinois Collegiate League and joined the Prospect League with several other CICL teams prior to the 2009 season. The team's original owners, the Quincy Civic Center Authority, sold the Gems to its current owners in September 2014 for $120,000. The Gems currently play in the Prospect League's Western Conference in the Great River Division along with the Burlington Bees, Clinton LumberKings, and Normal CornBelters. Stadium The Gems play at QU Stadium, a 2,500 seat facility owned and operated by Quincy University. The facility was built in 1938 and is located at 1800 Sycamore Street in Quincy. Quincy University
Quincy University (formerly known as St. Francis Solanus College, and today abbreviated as QU) is a private Franciscan university in Quincy, Illinois. It was founded in 1860 and enrolls about 1,100 students. History A small group of Franciscan friars left Germany in 1858 to serve the German-speaking population in what was then the frontier state of Illinois. On February 6, 1860, they founded the institution as St. Francis Solanus College. This school was established at the corner of 8th and Maine Street. Under the leadership of Fr. Anselm Mueller, who served as president for a total of 37 years beginning in 1863, the institution moved to its current location on what is now College Avenue. Following two other name changes during the twentieth century, the current name, Quincy University, was adopted in 1993. Sam Coonrod
Samuel Timothy Coonrod (born September 22, 1992) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies of Major League Baseball (MLB). He previously played for the San Francisco Giants. Coonrod was born in St. Louis, Missouri and raised in Carrollton, Illinois. He played high school baseball at Carrollton High School, where he helped his team win a state championship his senior season and became the first player in school history to have his jersey number retired. After high school, Coonrod spent three years playing college baseball with the Southern Illinois Salukis of the Missouri Valley Conference. Josh Rabe
Joshua Wayne Rabe (born October 15, 1978) is a former Major League Baseball outfielder with the Minnesota Twins and current head baseball coach for Quincy University in Quincy, Illinois. Quincy University Rabe played baseball, basketball and football at Unity High School in Mendon, Illinois, where he later graduated. He'd received multiple college offers to play football and basketball, but the only school interested in him as a baseball player was Division II Quincy University, where he earned Great Lakes Valley Conference Freshman of the Year honors in , and in , was named to the All-Great Lakes Valley Conference team and was the GLVC Player of the Year. Neal James Cotts (born March 25, 1980) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Chicago White Sox, Chicago Cubs, Texas Rangers, Milwaukee Brewers, and Minnesota Twins. College career Cotts attended Illinois State University where he won first-team All-Missouri Valley Conference honors and was named to the ABCA All-Midwest Region team. He was drafted by the Oakland Athletics 69th overall in the 2nd round of the 2001 draft, becoming the second highest player drafted in the history of Illinois State. Dan Meyer (pitcher)
Daniel Livingston Meyer (born July 3, 1981) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 2004 to 2010 for the Atlanta Braves, Oakland Athletics, and Florida Marlins. Meyer's coaching career began in 2014, within the Braves organization. Prior to the 2022 season, he was hired by the Pittsburgh Pirates. Amateur career Meyer pitched for Kingsway Regional High School in Woolwich Township, New Jersey, with whom he reached the South Jersey Group II final in 1999. Bryan Paul Bullington (born September 30, 1980) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. Bullington was the first overall selection in the 2002 Major League Baseball draft. Adam Rosales
Adam Marcos Rosales (born May 20, 1983) is an American former professional baseball infielder. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Cincinnati Reds, Oakland Athletics, Texas Rangers, San Diego Padres, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Cleveland Indians. Early and personal life In his youth, Adam played shortstop for the Diamonds 13 yr. old traveling baseball team in 1996, which won several tournaments including the annual Thillens Championship tournament.
