Queer Lion

History The idea of the Queer Lion comes from a 2003 interview, made by president of CinemArte association Daniel N. 67th Venice International Film Festival
The 67th annual Venice International Film Festival held in Venice, Italy, took place from 1 to 11 September 2010. American film director and screenwriter Quentin Tarantino was the head of the Jury. The opening film of the festival was Darren Aronofsky's ''Black Swan'', and the closing film was Julie Taymor's '' The Tempest''. John Woo was awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement prior to the start of the Festival. Stephen Frears
Stephen Arthur Frears (born 20 June 1941) is an English director and producer of film and television often depicting real life stories as well as projects that explore social class through sharply drawn characters. He's received numerous accolades including three BAFTA Awards, and a Primetime Emmy Award as well as nominations for two Academy Awards. In 2008, ''The Daily Telegraph'' named Frears among the 100 most influential people in British culture. In 2009 he received the Commandeur de l' Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. Born in Leicester and educated at Gresham's School and Trinity College, Cambridge, Frears started his career working as an assistant director in theatre and film while directing numerous television plays. ''Philomena'' is a 2013 tragicomedy film directed by Stephen Frears, based on the 2009 book ''The Lost Child of Philomena Lee'' by journalist Martin Sixsmith. The 70th annual Venice International Film Festival took place in Venice, Italy from 28 August to 7 September 2013. American film director William Friedkin was presented with a lifetime achievement award. Italian film director Bernardo Bertolucci was the President of the Jury. He was previously the President of the Jury at the 40th edition in 1983. ''Gravity'', directed by Alfonso Cuarón, was the opening film of the festival. Italian actress Eva Riccobono hosted the opening and closing nights of the festival. The Golden Lion was awarded to the Italian documentary film ''Sacro GRA''. Jeon Kyu-hwan
Jeon Kyu-hwan (born 1965) is a South Korean film director and screenwriter. Besides being the first Korean film to win the 2012 Queer Lion at the 69th Venice International Film Festival, ''The Weight'' (2012) also won various awards at film festivals, including Best Director at the 16th Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival and Silver Peacock Award for best director at the 43rd International Film Festival of India in 2012. Career Jeon started his career in a talent management company as a manager for actors such as Cho Jae-hyun and Sol Kyung-gu, before making his directorial feature debut with ''Mozart Town'' (2008), followed by ''Animal Town'' (2009) and ''Dance Town'' (2010). ''The Weight'' () is a 2012 South Korean film about a hunchback mortician and his transgender stepsister. It made its world premiere in the Venice Days sidebar of the 69th Venice International Film Festival, where it won the 2012 Queer Lion, an award for the "best film with a homosexual and queer culture theme." It is the first Korean film to have won the prize. It also won a Special Award at the 2013 Fantasporto Orient Express Awards. The 69th annual Venice International Film Festival, organized by Venice Biennale, took place at Venice Lido from 29 August to 8 September 2012. ''Wilde Salomé'' is a 2011 American docudrama written, directed by, and starring Al Pacino. An exploration of Oscar Wilde's 1891 play ''Salome (play), Salomé'', the film premiered at the 68th Venice International Film Festival. At the festival, Pacino was presented with the Glory to the Filmmaker! Award and the film won the Queer Lion award. The United States premiere of ''Wilde Salomé'' was held on March 21, 2012, at the Castro Theatre in San Francisco's Castro District. Marking the 130th anniversary of Oscar Wilde's visit to San Francisco, the premiere was a fundraiser for the GLBT Historical Society, with 1,000 tickets reserved for sale to the public.
