The Queensland Guineas is a Brisbane Racing Club Group 2 Thoroughbred horse race held over 1600 metres, at set weights, for three-year-old horses held at Eagle Farm Racecourse in Brisbane, Australia in June during the Queensland Winter Racing Carnival. Total prizemoney is A$350,000. Due to track reconstruction of Eagle Farm Racecourse for the 2014–15 racing season the event was transferred to Doomben Racecourse. History Prior to 2005 the race was held in early May. From 2006 to 2008 the race was held on the Queen's Birthday holiday in June. Since 2009 it is held in early June. Doomben Racecourse
Doomben Racecourse is a horse racing venue in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It is located in the suburb of Ascot, 7 kilometres north of the Brisbane central business district. The Doomben course neighbours another thoroughbred venue called the Eagle Farm Racecourse and can be accessed via car, train or bus. Together with Eagle Farm, these courses are considered the two major racecourses in South East Queensland, and can be seen sharing irrigation systems and some of Brisbane Racings feature events. This racecourse underwent its last major reconstruction in 1996 which primarily included major changes to the racing turf and its surrounding structures. Lough Neagh (horse)
Lough Neagh (1928-1945) was an Australian chestnut Thoroughbred gelding, developed into an 'Iron Horse' of the Australian turf by Brisbane trainer and owner Tim Brosnan raced from a two-year-old to a ten-year-old winning on wet or dry tracks recording 32 wins from 5 furlongs to 2 miles with regular jockey's being Ted Tanwan and Fred Shean. Breeding Lough Neagh was bred by Bill Glasson of Manapouri Stud on the Darling Downs, Queensland by the unraced sire Bachelor's Persse (IRE) was purchased at the Brisbane yearling sales for 100 guineas and was imported as a yearling by Mr De Burgh Persse in 1914. Kolding (foaled 3 November 2015) is a New Zealand bred and Australian trained thoroughbred racehorse that has won three Group I races, as well as the inaugural running of the Golden Eagle in 2020. Background Kolding was purchased for $170,000 at the 2017 New Zealand Premier Yearling Sale. He is a half-brother to Sampson, winner of the Trentham Stakes, Awapuni Gold Cup and New Zealand St. Leger. Racing career Kolding was defeated in his first three races however won at his fourth attempt on the 23 January 2019 at Canterbury when ridden by Hugh Bowman.
